Help Grow New Amelia Clay Center

Donation protected
Good news for art lovers! The former day care center at 112 S. Third St. in historic Fernandina Beach, FL, will soon re-open its doors as a Community Art Center, thanks to Amelia Island resident Polly Beach, founding Editor/Publisher of "Clay Times® Magazine." Originally founded in Waterford, Virginia, Clay Times has served the international ceramic art community since 1995, and will continue to operate from its new headquarters at the facility.

The main vision for the remainder of this 4,750-s.f. building & grounds is to turn it into a full-service clay art center, offering pottery classes, studio art supplies and equipment, and a gallery of handmade fine art works from across the USA.

Affordable, shared studio space will also be available for local artists who need a space where they can either "spread out" and keep to themselves, or work alongside like-minded creatives.

Community residents and Amelia Island visitors young and old will have the opportunity to unleash their creative spirits here, with lessons including wheel-throwing, handbuilding, tile making, sculpture, and even "paint-your-own-pottery" molds for island visitors who need a quicker artistic-fix.

In addition to claywork, the center will also cater to needs of more unique studio artists who specialize in glass arts of mosaics, glass slumping, and stained glass, as well as jewelry making and more unusual crafts.

Volunteers interested in becoming a part of the new "Clay Times Art Center " have recently begun regular meetings with the goal of establishing the center as its own not-for-profit entity, to hopefully serve the entire North Florida / Southern Georgia region for many years to come.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

• Please donate whatever $ you can to help supplement the cost of establishing and operating the new building :)

• If you can't donate $, please consider donating your time to help us form this not-for-profit entity, or to help establish, administer, and maintain our new community art program!

• We are also accepting donations in the form of educational and / or pottery equipment, supplies, tools, etc., as well as art supplies & equipment of any nature!

• If you can't do any of the above, please share this story with anyone you think might be interested in taking part or helping out ...

• Watch for and support upcoming local fund-raisers including sales of the former professional day care furnishings & equipment and our planned "Empty Bowls" show & sale to support the homeless in our community

• If you are a local business, please refer your patrons to us, and we'll send ours to you, too!

• We're looking for local artists and art teachers who would like to share their knowledge & art works with our new art center patrons!

Again, we would very much appreciate it if you share our story with anyone and everyone you know who might have an interest supporting this community art project. It will benefit not only Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island artists, residents, and visitors, but also the art community in general and the many clay artists throughout the Florida/Georgia region who need improved local access to ceramic art supplies & educational opportunities.

Your donation can help make this project a reality!

All contributions will be used to cover the costs of launching & maintaining the new art center.  Please help us help our community spread the love of art and claywork to young and old . Your donation of ANY SIZE is very much needed and appreciated!
