Meet our beautiful Mouse , 6 months and less than 800 grams.
Mouse was born with microphthalmia, a cleft palette and severely stunted growth.
Mouse and her three brothers were found as tiny newborns behind a backyard shed. The property owner waited for their mum to appear, but as a storm approached she feared for their safety. The four kittens were hand reared, loved and cared for. They recently came into our care as it was time for them to find their forever families.
The three brothers grew into healthy, happy and strong boys, who have all found their forever homes. Mouse on the other hand will be in care for a while, until all her medical treatment can be completed.
Her eyes are underdeveloped and ulcerated, with double entropian (rolled in eyelids) and possible cataracts. She occasionally reacts to light but has minimal, if any, eyesight. Both eyes are currently being treated with antibiotics, but it is likely she will have them removed for comfort and prevent further damage and infections.
Her palette (roof of her mouth) did not form correctly leaving an opening between her oral and nasal passages. This has lead to Mouse being malnourished, stunted, anorexic and highly susceptible to respiratory infections and aspiration pneumonia. Her current respiratory infection is being treated with a strong antibacterial medication.
We have xrays and ultrasound planned to get a more evaluated health check.
Yesterday Mouse had a feeding tube placed so we can keep her nourished and get her strength up for her impending surgeries.
Mouse hasn't had an easy start to life and we are doing everything in our power to ensure she is comfortable and healthy. But we are at a point with our medical funds being low, we are limited to what we can do. We have had two emergency caesareans, orthopedic and opthamology surgeries as well as general desexing, microchipping, vaccination, medication and health checks.
We need your help. Not just for Mouse , but all our current and future fosters.
