Cindy's bench

Donation protected

Our beloved wife and mother, Cindy Epley, died on Saturday April 13. Thankfully, years ago, we asked her what she wanted done in the case of her death and -- of course -- Cindy had some specific requests.

She wanted her body donated to science, but knew that wouldn't leave her family and friends with anything to mourn over. At least, nothing tangible. So she asked us to put a bench with her name on it, somewhere people could rest awhile and watch something pretty.

She particularly designated Point Defiance Park in Washington state, where her husband Mitch proposed to her, as a potential site.

Mitch and Robin would also like to place a bench at East Lawn, a local historic cemetery where Cindy did volunteer work.  That way her friends and family in Sacramento can visit her memory as well, and have a place to sit and rest, as she would have wanted.

The $5000 goal is an estimate,  if we come in under the actual cost -- well, that money will still go a long way toward helping us place these memorial benches. (Originally I put $2500 but it was pointed out to me that engraving and installation for two benches cost more than that.)

If we go over what it actually costs, Dad and I would like to split the donation between the Girl Scouts and the East Lawn Fab 40s 5K for Alzheimer's research. Mom cared about both of those communities deeply.

And, if you'd like to, one day when the benches are in place -- Cindy loved carnations. If you'd like to sit there, rest awhile, view the pretty sights, and leave a carnation... well, I know she'd like that very much.
