Get Christina Hurst Walking Again!

Donation protected
In two weeks Christina Hurst's insurance will not cover her treatment for the rest of the year and her last Go Fund me account was used for initial medical costs and treatments in 2015. With three sessions a week at one of the best spinal cord injury recovery facilities in the country you can imagine the medical bills are going to be a challenge. She has over 80 sessions to pay out of pocket to get her through the year. For all those that donated last year, Christina, her family and I give our sincerest thank you for your generosity. It has gotten her to where she is today.

Studies have proven the first two years after a spinal cord injury are the most crucial for nerve regeneration, movement and mobility. As the start of her second year begins, it is extremely important she continues her therapy.

It is my hope we can once again raise money for these crucial therapy sessions for Christina and her family. Money should be the least of Christina's worries, walking again should be her main focus. Let's help that become a reality!!

For those of you who don't know. On June 7, 2015 Christina Hurst's life changed forever.  She was walking her dog in the park in Grand Ledge, Michigan and was knocked unconscious after tumbling to the bottom of one of the ledges. When she regained conciseness she couldn't move... It's was dark and rainy. She yelled for help for the next 9 hours until a police officer finally found her. At Sparrow Hospital she learned she'd broken 5 ribs, suffered a burst fractured to her T12 vertebrae, fractured her L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5 vertebrates along with injuring her spinal cord enough to make her legs completely immobile. She was told it was unlikely she would ever walk again. Over the last year she has been working tirelessly to prove them wrong.

Christina has made great strides in her mission to walk again. It's certainly not been without it's trials and tribulations, but she always finds a way to muster her ever beaming positive attitude and push through another day. Her most difficult challenge to date was finding out she would have to have another surgery
after finally heeling from her first painful surgeries. This would be a 5 hour corrective operation that lead to 10 nights at Beaumont Hospital followed by a second inpatient stay at Rehab Institute of Michigan (RIM) for 8 weeks. From this surgery and Christina's tireless efforts she has made great strides in the last year. She now has sensation in both legs down to her knee and sparse feeling below. Prior to her corrective surgery she had a huge lump in her back that was giving her kyphosis (hunchback) but the surgery worked and she is straight up and down now! With the assistance of robotic legs or a weight assisted treadmill at RIM Christina has been able to walk and with parallel bars she is able to stand. Although this is fabulous news there is still a long journey ahead for Christina. Thank you again for all of your continued support!
