Chris’ Story

We’ve all seen and heard stories about how someone’s life can change in a second; how everything is going along--if not smoothly-- then at least in a general direction towards okay, good, maybe even great.  We hear it and hope and pray we never have to find out if that’s really a possibility…that everything can change in a second.  This is what happened to Chris.  Everything did change in a second.

On November24, 2018 Chris drove herself to the emergency room.  She had been having some health issues for the past several months, and wasn’t feeling up to 100% but she attributed that to working two jobs and getting older.  Yes, she had been working two jobs, one which required early rising and facing all kinds of weather driving workers to and from their workplace and the other styling hair which required her to be on her feet a lot of hours.  Not that she minded…Chris had always been a hard worker and she loved the people both her jobs allowed her to meet. Just two days earlier she had celebrated Thanksgiving with her family.     Just two days earlier she had been thinking about Christmas, and what gifts she would get for her grandchildren and wondering how she would have time to get everything done while working those two jobs.  But everything changed in a second.

Chris was diagnosed with ALS, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as motor neurone disease or Lou Gehrig’s disease.  It is a horrible, debilitating disease with no known cure.

She has been in ICU since 11-24-18.  She went from working two jobs to being bedridden, unable to breathe on her own and unable to eat or drink or talk.  Her only means of communication is writing on a dry erase board.  She has had a tracheostomy so she can breathe.  She has a feeding tube for nourishment. She has multiple infections that are being treated.  She has been in a bed since 11-24-18, only sitting up in a wheelchair for small periods of time because she is so weak and because ALS is robbing her of her strength.

The medical bills are piling up even though she has insurance.  And there are other bills that need to be paid that cannot be paid because after working two jobs, everything changed in a second.

Chris has always been a strong and independent woman.  She is still strong….she just has to rely on her family and friends and medical staff for everything now.

Her daughters and family members are asking for your help.  Please pray for Chris.  Pray for relief from her anxiety, pray for the medical team who is managing her care, and pray for her family, especially her daughters.  And please prayerfully consider donating to her fund.
