Chicago 4 Florida: HRCN Irma Relief

$1,563 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 18 people in 14 months
Hello everyone,

My name is Mauricio Romy, I live in Chicago, IL and I am a parent at St. Hilary School.

I am planning on driving a 26 foot Penske truck to South Florida from Chicago to bring supplies to the community of Broward County after the storm has passed. I am doing this because I lived in Broward County, FL for 10 years before moving to Chicago 3 years ago. I have paid for the rental truck out of pocket and will be incurring gas expenses. I am asking the community of Chicago to help contribute to the cost of the rental of the truck and the associated expenses (diesel gas to get to Florida). Any additional money left over will be used to buy more water and/or other basic necessities for those in need. Once the campaign has ended the funds will be disbursed to my personal bank account to help me recoup the expenses I have incurred with the rental of the truck/gas/supplies purchased.

***Relief Drive***

Canned food, water, diapers, baby food, batteries and hygiene supplies will be accepted as donations. These can be dropped off at the parking lot of St. Hilary School located at 5614 N. Fairfield Ave. Chicago, IL 60659.

The truck will be parked at the lot which is off the SW corner of Lincoln and California. Saturday, September 9th to Monday, September 11th. Hours are 9-7pm.  Please contact me before dropping off any donations so I can make sure someone is available to accept your contribution. Remember, no donation is too small to aid those in need.

I want to remind you that during times like these it is in our hands to make a difference and step up to help others. Everyone who is not in the path of Irma or has not been affected by Harvey is truly being spared from grief, disaster, and all sorts of other loss. Be the hands of feet of those who cannot help themselves.

Thank you all for your support.

-Mauricio

Last Update 9/26/17 8:50 AM Central Time. - We did it!

Hello everyone,

I am sorry it took me this long to provide you all with the last update. We made it to Fort Myers, FL on September 14 in the afternoon and all of your donations are on their way to the ones affected by Hurricane Irma in Florida. The Harry Chapin Food Bank was ready with many volunteers to help unload the Chicago for Florida truck. We are blessed to be part of this charitable cause and we thank everyone who made this possible.

Update 9/11/2017 1:13 AM Central Time - We made it to the news.

I want to take the time to thank the Chicagoland community for all the support and donations. The Chicago for Florida truck is halfway full and we are blessed to see how this small cause is getting the community together. I want to thank the media for the excellent coverage and for sharing with their viewers what we are trying to accomplish for the ones in need.

Due to the storm pattern changes in the last 24 hrs, my wife and I have decided to postpone the drive to South Florida for Tuesday, September 12. So we will be accepting donations all day tomorrow Monday, September 11 between 7:30 AM and 7 PM.
