Help The Homeless in Chicago During Polar Vortex

Steuerlich absetzbar
Hi, my name is Khloe Thompson , I’m an 11 year old from Los Angeles.

In 2016, I started a GoFundMe called, “Khloe Kares,”  to build "Kare Bags" to support homeless women in Southern California. With the help of my family and friends, we raised $18,000 and have passed out over 3,500 "Kare Bags" to women in need.

This week, I’ve watched the news about the polar vortex and I’ve seen how cold it’s getting across the country, especially in Chicago. According to the news reports, it could feel like 50 degrees below due to frigid wind chills, with an expected high of -13.

Temperatures have already dropped below zero, and it’s expected to get much worse over the next few days. I want to help the homeless men and women during the polar vortex... and I want all of you to join me.

All of the money raised will go directly to the Salvation Army Chicago.

The Salvation Army announced they will have mobile feeding and homeless outreach crews making over 30 stops throughout Chicago to help those on the streets. They will also feed people utilizing warming buses and provide other important services over the next several days.

The homeless population needs our help, and I want to show them that we “Kare.”

Please join me! Donate what you can or share this campaign.

And here’s the full list of activities from the Salvation Army Chicago:

- The mobile feeding and homeless outreach units make up to 31 stops throughout the City of Chicago  every day providing hearty bowls of soup and a beverage, and offering services to those living on the streets. We have added additional visits to homeless encampments throughout the City starting at 7 p.m., offering to take individuals to substance abuse treatment centers, shelters or even The Salvation Army Freedom Center’s lobby where they can get coffee/tea, snacks and stay warm. Those choosing to stay will receive additional food and cold weather gear.

- The Freedom Center   is an emergency warming center Tuesday, January 29 at 5 p.m. - Friday, February 1 at 7 a.m.

- The Salvation Army has partnered with the City of Chicago to perform well-being checks for those calling 311 requesting assistance. Our case workers will make home visits and can transport people to warming centers, shelters or medical facilities, depending on the situation.

- The Salvation Army is providing meal service for the City of Chicago’s emergency warming centers at 10 S. Kedzie and King Center. We are also providing food and warm beverages for the CTA warming buses.

- The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services is supplying pallets of materials and food for the City of Chicago’s emergency shelters and warming centers.

- Salvation Army corps community centers can serve as unofficial warming centers during business hours. Families and individuals are encouraged to visit our centers to stay warm and learn about our programs and services. Visit the website for a listing of locations.
