Hi Everyone!
I am Cherry "Terror" Zonkowski, a local performer and writer in the Bay Area. Five years ago my one woman show, "Reading My Dad's Porn and Frenchkissing the Dog" was a smash hit at the Marsh theater, selling out every night. I continue performing at great local storytelling events like Bawdy Storytelling, Fireside Storytelling, That Really Happened?!, TMI, and a lot of other great shows, and on the side I wrote a motherfucking book: "Cheeky Tiki Bang Gang: the Case of the Creepy Christian Camp."
It has sex and adventure and fun and humor and a really good heart: it's about a team of sexual superheroes codenamed after the Gilligan's Island characters(yup) who rescue gay, bisexual, and transgender teens from abusive religious households. Each main character has their own sexual history flashback, a la "Orange Is the New Black, " that celebrates the range and differences in sexual experience. I deeply believe that heteronormative vanilla monogamy works for very few people, but we are still bombarded with it in our media as if it is the only choice. Bawdy Storytelling has led the way in affirming our experiences by sharing people's stories, but we also need fictional narratives of what happiness and fulfillment could look like. At the same time, there are forces we contend with in this country that would stamp out our pleasures, our happiness, and even our lives if they could, and this book did its research in portraying the kinds of experiences some LGBTQ teens still have to face growing up in households that tell them it is not okay to be who they are.
I need money to pay the editor and illustrator, get the books made, and promote them once they are out. PLEASE JOIN ME! Contribute 10$, to pre-order the book. Contribute $20, and you get a signed copy and a ticket to my book launch, where you'll hear a reading from the book and see other storytellers who have contributed to the book tell their stories.
