Chef Darin Hurcn Matthew Recovery

Donation protected

I have been a longtime friend of Darin Sehnert.  I live in Atlanta and Darin, along with others stayed with me in Atlanta while they were evacuated from the Savannah area during Hurricane Matthew.  Saturday morning Darin woke up to photos of his house under 15 inches of water.  Chef Darin returned to his home yesterday only to find out from his homeowners insurance that he will not be covered for this "Act of God".  Myself, Claire Whitlock and Sari Klett, all friends of Darin decided a GoFundMe campaign would be the best way to help him right now.  The goal on this campaign is an estimate.  All donations will be appreciated, if the goal is not reached we and Darin will be thankful for whatever amount is received.  The campaign is set so that Darin can withdraw the funds himself.  He can withdraw it when he needs it for cleaning, repairs, electrical work, structural repairs, mold and mildew remediation, etc.  WTOC in Savannah was in Pooler today interviewing Darin and the other residents.  That story and interview may be viewed here:

More info on what happened:

Chef Darin Sehnert took a significant hit from Hurricane Matthew. His home in the Savannah suburb of Pooler, GA was flooded by 15 inches of water. The tidal canals behind his home could not handled the deluge brought in from high tide and the water dumped by Matthew. Even though there are canals in the vicinity, Darin was not required to maintain flood insurance because the area was not listed in the 100 year floodplain map.

For those that do not know him, Darin is a celebrated chef in Savannah. He has been teaching culinary classes in the area for years. Chef Darin's cooking classes have consistently been listed as the #1 tourists activity on Trip Advisor for Savannah. A couple of years ago, Darin always the entrepreneur, decided to open his own cooking school in Savannah.  http://www.chefdarin.com/  Part of the financing to get the school off the ground was secured by his personal home which is now flooded. Also, to help during the lean times of a new business, Darin was renting some rooms in his home out to long term tenants. Darin has been sleeping on the floor for a year. Needless to say the flooding of his home and with no help from homeowners insurance would be one thing, but it is also putting his job/cooking school in jeopardy.

The funds from this campaign will be used to help Darin recover his home.  Cleaning of the home, structural repairs as needed, mold and mildew remediation and replacement of items lost.
