A happy, healthy Charlotte

Hi my name is Alix and the beautiful horse in the photos is Charlotte.
Charlotte is a recent off-the-track thoroughbred whom I took on as a project to give her a new career. Charlotte was not a race-winner, but her graceful movement, sound mind and sweet temperament made her a great candidate for an eventer. So we went to work and she was progressing well.
One night, two weeks ago, however, Charlotte got her leg stuck between two narrow bars up high in her stall. When my friend found her she was on the ground, lying very still, with her lower leg already lacerated where she had rubbed it on the stall wall struggling to free herself. By some miracle she managed not to break her leg. We were able to free her by sawing into one of the bars and after some hesitation she got to her feet. Using gentle coaxing and showing off her iron will, Charlotte dutifully loaded into the trailer and we took her to the veterinary clinic at Purdue University.
She had damaged her right hind leg from hoof to almost hock, and had cut open her left elbow as well while struggling on the ground. She was placed in a cast, had a drain put into her elbow wound and has needed around-the-clock care in the clinic since the accident. The talented vets and students at the Purdue Large Animal clinic have taken wonderful care of her and they believe she will still be able to succeed in her new career.
The reason I have started this campaign is to help in the cost of Charlotte's vet care. I am a graduate student at Purdue University and therefore have an extremely limited budget. My friend suggested I use gofundme.com to try to raise money because as we all know any little bit helps.
