On Saturday the 15th of December 2018, one wrong dive changed 23-year-old Charlie Lilley’s life forever.
Standing at 6 foot 6, the healthy and handsome young man hit the bottom of a pool, fracturing his C6 vertebrae, causing significant spinal cord trauma.
This tragic accident totally derailed his much-loved career and his full, active and independent life.
After being transferred to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital, Charlie underwent a gruelling nine-hour operation to prevent any further damage.
Charlie is now in the PA’s Spinal Injury Unit.
He is left with very limited use of his arms, no fine motor skills in his hands, and no use of his lower limbs.
Amazingly, in the face of such loss, Charlie still maintains his charisma and charm.
Charlie’s world is a whole new one, but he is a fighter. His mantra is “I’m going to fight this”.
His mother, Denise, is at the hospital bedside around the clock. She is overwhelmed by and extremely grateful for the support of the friends, who have supplied home-cooked meals.
His family are comforted by the fact that he is alive and has no brain damage.
Not much can be done to ease the emotional stress of this heartbreaking situation. However, with your help we can ease things financially so Charlie can get the best results possible.
This platform has been set-up because the long road ahead is going to be extremely difficult and expensive. We want Charlie and his family to know that they are not alone.
