At 3 am on Sunday the 30th July 17, Charles Edwards' Parents received the phone call that is every parent's worst nightmare.

Their loving 21-year-old son Charles, had fallen from a height and was being flown by helicopter to the Alfred Hospital Trauma Centre, where he was placed in an induced coma with severe head injuries and fighting for his life.

Needless to say, their lives have been put on hold as they stay by Charles’ side, medical expenses will be an ongoing strain, compounded by their additional loss of income from not being able to work through this period.

Thankfully the amazing care received by the wonderful ICU staff and many prayers from all who know Charles has helped and six days later Charles has been taken out of the induced coma and is showing positive signs of improvement. There will be, however, a long road ahead for Charles’ rehabilitation and subsequent ongoing care and cost. Any donations would be a blessing and greatly appreciated for Charles and his family as they deal with their immediate medical expenses and the long road ahead for Charles' rehabilitation.

We are so pleased to report Charles is making steady progress now sitting up, talking and walking slowly with assistance, he appears to have good function on both sides of his body now which is such a relief. Charles is so focused on making a full recovery and is determined to work hard on his rehabilitation and get back to Ballarat as soon as possible.

We are all just so relieved and thankful. Joanne, Michael and Oliver again wish to express their gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received from family, friends and the wider Ballarat and district community during the past two weeks.

Joanne, Michael and Oliver wish to express their gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received from family, friends and the wider Ballarat and district community during the past two weeks.

Pleasingly, Charles is continuing to make progress now sitting up and has even walked his first steps under the watchful eye of his younger brother Oliver. Charles’ rehabilitation and recovery will take time but he is in great care with the amazing staff of the Alfred Hospital. We are confident with Charles' positive attitude and determination he will continue to make progress with the support of his family and friends.
