We are Youth Rebuilding New Orleans a grass root Non Profit Organization that originated in response to Hurricane Katrina. WE come to you all humbly as we assist New Orleans and near by cities in the recovery from Hurricane Ida's impact. We are raising funds to provide immediate assistance to those who are currently stuck in the city. Funds will be used for essential needs such as shelter, food, water, batteries, charger, gasoline, etc. Currently, New Orleans is without lights & water and it's unknown when these basic needs will be restored. We are working closely with community leaders who are on the grounds navigating through the chaos.

Ironically enough, Hurricane Ida made landfall in New Orleans August 29th. On the 16th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. This is all to reminiscent for most of us who live Katrina and quite depressing understanding how difficult the rebuild stage is.

As mentioned above, Youth Rebuilding New Orleans started in response of Hurricane Katrina by high school students who simply wanted to help their community after constantly being denied that opportunity to assist in the rebuild effort. Today we have grown and now address the blight that Katrina produced. When time allows, we again will be boots on the grounds helping the those throughout the community. Youth Rebuilding New Orleans is a volunteer-based nonprofit that rebuilds houses destroyed in Hurricane Katrina and sells them to teachers at affordable prices to uplift local education. To ensure safety precautions during the Covid-19 pandemic, Youth Rebuilding New Orleans has not been offering volunteer opportunities and is now preparing to be able to do so.  The organization is raising money to buy a van to support their summer youth group in order to transport students and interns to construction sites.

     This Fall, I will become a Bat Mitzvah. I have decided to work with Youth Rebuilding New Orleans (YRNO) as my mitzvah project. I chose to partner with YRNO because my house, along with many others, was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina in 2005. While my house was rebuilt, other houses were abandoned after the storm. Rebuilding damaged houses improves our neighborhoods and gives citizens more places to live.

     YRNO is a non-profit organization that engages local youth (ages 15-24) in helping to reduce blight in New Orleans by rebuilding distressed and foreclosed homes. The finished homes are sold to teachers at 80% of their market value to stabilize neighborhoods and positively impact the education system of New Orleans.

     I first volunteered with YRNO in June. My parents and I were given the task of tiling a shower! The YRNO staff walked us through how to tile the shower and were by our side whenever we needed help. I really enjoyed this experience and look forward to working more with them in the future. ​

On Tuesday, February 7th, 2017 New Orleans East was hit by a massive tornado, destroying 940 homes in the area.

Youth Rebuilding New Orleans is a non-profit rebuilding organization established immediately after Hurricane Katrina to help those affected by disaster. We recruit and train thousands of youth volunteers each year for moments like this tornado, and YRNO has already received over 20 inquiries and requests for help homeowners with limited means to rebuild. We need donations to continue this work. 

Over the next 2 weeks, YRNO is coordinating and mobilizing hundreds of volunteers to help clean up debris and protect the 20+ homes and homeowners we know in New Orleans East from further damage. For many families, this is the second or third time facing massive cleanup costs, and YRNO's volunteers will ease the burden each day we work. 

We can't do this alone. We ask for your contributions to purchase supplies for this volunteer effort: additional gloves, hammers and water for volunteers, a new generator to power the saws-all needed for cleanup, garbage bags for debris, and tarps to cover exposed roofs.
