WORLDWIDE CANCER RESEARCH

In 2018 our world changed forever when Kevin Williamson, an amazing husband, father and friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He was diagnosed with an aggressive form of oesophageal cancer, which spread to different parts of his body. Dad fought an immense battle and passed away in June 2020.

Not long after this, our wonderful mum Victoria Williamson was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer which spread to her spine, bowel and liver. In December 2024 our world was once again shattered when mum’s battle came to an end and she was reunited with our dad in the skies above.

Findlay, Poppy and myself are their three kids which have been left behind. Findlay is 22, Poppy is 13 and I am 24. We set up this legacy fund initially with the aim of raising money in my dad’s memory. But with having had both our incredible parents taken from us so young, we wanted to honour them both with this legacy fund. We want to make sure they are never forgotten and they are always remembered for the wonderful impact they had on this world.

Hello! I am once again combining my passion for cycling with asking you for some help. I'm raising money as part of Chris Hoy's Tour de 4 Campaign by cycling a 90km route in Glasgow later this year. I've selected Worldwide Cancer Research for a couple of reasons that are close to me. The first is that a dear relative of mine was recently diagnosed with cancer, which would have gone unseen for who-knows how long if it weren't for checks done following a non-serious car accident. The second is that same relative lost a close family member years ago to Pancreatic cancer which is notoriously difficult to treat. WWCR are pioneers in researching new and innovative treatments and recently funded work in this area (https://www.worldwidecancerresearch.org/news-and-press/news-and-press/breakthrough-in-pancreatic-cancer-research/). The third is that my partner has worked there previously and can vouch for the passion and commitment of each and every member of staff who work for, and who are funded by, WWCR. I'll be cycling with a friend of mine who has their own reasons for being involved, but we will both be riding with a different objective in mind for a change - not chasing times, but chasing purpose.

Everyone is touched by cancer at some point in their life, it's sad but it is true. Cancer has impacted my family as I’m sure it has yours. As a result, I have chosen to run the Copenhagen Half Marathon to raise money for Worldwide Cancer Research, to help start new cancer cures. I am also running to honour and commemorate those I have lost to cancer, and to support and show love to those I know currently living with this horrible disease. I began running journey after my PhD in a quest to get healthy, both physically and mentally, and would now like my running to make a difference. Any donation will help make a huge impact. As a lot of people may not know my auntie has recently been diagnosed with cancer , meaning her whole life has came to stand still , she doesn’t know where she’s coming or going , she’s currently waiting on a kidney transplant to try and put an end to this nightmare that she is living, and what better way to make her smile than throwing myself out of a plane ! We have signed up to compete in the Edinburgh Based Business 5's competition to raise vital funds through donations, win prize money for the charity, and raise awareness for this great cause, and the effective work they do.

The charity's work has impacted us at D R Newitt as a group, with the efforts they have made to support our colleague - Jamie Lunn - and his family following the passing of his father earlier in 2022 due to cancer. As such, we're keen to support them as much as we can.
