Women's Sports Foundation

As two high school athletes from Canton, we're passionate about tackling gender inequality in sports for our capstone project. Through research, interviews, and community engagement, we’re shedding light on the barriers female athletes face. Our goal is to inspire change and create more opportunities for women in sports at every level.

I'm very excited to be a member of the 2022 Women's Sports Foundation NYC Marathon team!

 

Sports have had a tremendous impact on my life, which is why I am running and fundraising for a cause that helps girls and women experience the power of sport.

 

The Women’s Sports Foundation, founded in 1974 by Billie Jean King, exists to advocate for equality, educate the public, conduct research, and offer grants to promote sports and physical activity for girls and women.

 

In November, I’ll be running 26.2 miles wearing a WSF jersey.

 

Join me by contributing $1 per mile, so that’s $26 - or $27 if you want to round up ;) and together, we will help keep sports in the lives of girls and women.

Hi! I'm Barrett. When I was a kid, I dreamed about becoming a professional athlete, but I didn't think that could ever happen. The only time I saw girls and women excelling on a national or global stage was when I watched the Olympics. Even now that there are more professional athletic opportunities for women, the lack of parity and continued fights for equity turn these athletes into advocates instead of allowing them to focus on their sport and developing their talent on the field, court, apparatus, ice, etc.

Instead of pursuing professional athletics, I started my career in sports media. But I faced ageism and sexism, and I never knew what time I'd be able to eat dinner on a Sunday because I had to wait for NFL and MLB game stories. Sports became a job instead of a passion, and I decided I'd rather enjoy them as a fan. I've pivoted my career path since then, but I'm still an advocate for the value of sports, particularly for women and girls. I went to see Team USA gymnasts on the Gold Over America Tour in October and am looking for other ways to support women who want to make a living as an athlete.

I hope donations to the Women's Sports Foundation will help women today and girls in the future achieve the dreams I couldn't.

Created by a former athlete turned event planner, Big Sports Girl hosts unforgettable events during every sports season, uniting women through tailgates, game nights, and pop-up gatherings. It’s about lifting each other up, building lasting friendships, and creating memories that extend beyond the field. With a portion of proceeds supporting girls and women in sports, Big Sports Girl is more than a brand — it’s a movement.

Hi! Welcome to the GoFundMe for the Women’s Sports Foundation. Recently, I started a campaign to promote women in the sports industry, along with fundraising for women’s sports, and hopefully be able to start my own fundraiser to give back to the women’s athletic programs.
