Affilia: Journal of Women and Social Work, published quarterly, is the only peer-reviewed, scholarly social work journal from feminists' points of view, offering a unique mix of research reports, new theory and other creative approaches.
Affilia: Journal of Women and Social Work is launching the first annual fundraiser to support the development of feminist social work scholarship. As you know, since 1986 Affilia has remained the only social work journal dedicated to the discussion and development of feminist values, theories, and knowledge as they relate to social work and social welfare research, education, and practice.
The critical need for Affilia was underscored recently when the journal was targeted by a group of disgruntled academics who published hoax articles in an effort to discredit critical race and gender scholarship, what they coined as “grievance studies”. Affilia used its collective voice to respond in a powerful editorial stating that the feminist scholars who founded Affilia “wanted to hear women’s voices”, because such voices have different stories to tell and their analyses contest established truths that foreclose heterogeneity; they work against, in the words of the Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, “the danger of the single story”.
