Windham Community Food Network's Community Fridge
GoFundMe
Hello all! Please support our new community fridge. If you are not already familiar with us, we are the Windham Community Food Network. We are a diverse group of community members, farmers, businesses, and agencies who are looking to promote access to healthy food, create economic activities, and promote diverse community participation in problem-solving in the Windham community.
We are looking to create a community fridge in our town. This fridge will help our community in the fight against food injustice. Food insecurity is an issue that impacts our community and because of that some of the community may not be receiving the nutritious food they need. For this, we are looking to start a community fridge that will serve as a means to provide nutritious food to our community members. We are looking to stock our fridge with fresh produce and some non-perishables. We are hopeful that we will receive the majority of this produce from local farmers and businesses who are able to donate. But we also need your help!
We are looking for monetary donations to help set up the fridge. This includes purchasing the supplies to build a shed for the fridge, hiring an electrician to install an outdoor outlet, buying the art supplies to decorate the fridge and create directional signs, and many other tasks that have to be carried out in order to get ourselves up and running. Below is a breakdown of our budget:
Total First Year Budget: $4,957
Foods costs $3,360
Purchased Food = $280/month $3,360
Construction of Fridge Location/ Setup $1,090
Fridge = $300
Shed materials/cost of shed = $350
Outdoor outlet installation = $400
Shelves = $40
Volunteers Logs $82
Binder = $5
Paper = $5 each X2 $10
Pens = $7
Hand Sanitizer = $10
Scale = $50
Bus Boxes = $5 bus box X4 $20
Volunteer Management $240
Scheduling Software = $20/month $240
Sanitization $165
Cleaning supplies = $10/month
Bucket
Brush
Gloves
Towels
Paper towels
Food Grade cleaning solution
Donation Expenses $45
Bins for grocery stores = $15 X3 $45
Electricity Costs $240
Monthly electricity costs = $20
It is important to keep in mind that a lot of these costs are one time purchases. We are also in the process of applying for grants to help us with the setup of our fridge. Further, through donations and finding free items, these costs will be brought down as well.
Any leftover money will be used to buy groceries to stock the fridge. Any donation is appreciated to the fridge, so even if you can only pitch in a couple bucks, we appreciate it! If you have questions about our fridge or want to learn how you can become involved with the project, please email Sydney Clements from the Windham Community Food Network at [email redacted]
