On Martin Luther King Day, I met Brandan Thomas at Powhatan´s Day of Service. His stories about the homeless population were very inspiring. I learned so much about his commitment to our community. Did you know a donation of only $8 can feed an individual for an entire day?

The Winchester Rescue Mission was established in Winchester Va. in 1973 as a Christian based non-profit organization. Since then, the mission has led our community feeding thousands of people each year, housed thousands of men in our residential men's homeless shelter, served hot meals every night of the year to the public, given away hundreds of tons of food to area families & other non-profits, provided men's addiction recovery residential programming free of cost, and is the only gospel rescue mission in Virginia that is 100% staffed and run by formerly homeless men.

However, we are at a cross-roads in funding. Donorship has dwindled with the poor economy. The Winchester Rescue Mission is not funded by governmental or municipal sources; it is funded by churches, individuals, and businesses. We anticipate by the Fall of 2016 at our current rate of financial donations, to have exhausted our operational financial reserves.

We need your help....This is the time to step up as a community Winchester! Should we not get sufficient community financial donor support, our 38 bed homeless shelter would close; thus, overnight you would see an increase in homeless people on our streets, addicts without recovery resources & support, and hundreds of people will go without a daily meal or food distribution that they once obtained at our rescue mission.

Please help us continue to help the less fortunate citizens of Winchester. Our service consumers are men, women, and children. This is our S.O.S. - or rather our - 'Save Our Mission' plea for community support and participation. Our success in serving others is your success. Our ability to stay open now rests in the hands of the residents of Winchester. Come on Winchester, let's all chip in no matter how little and show we can get this done before September 1, 2016!
