Camp Indigo - For Trans and Gender Diverse Youth
For the last four summers our day camp for transgender and gender diverse kids has served over 100 incredible young people in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our mission from the beginning was to create a summer day camp where kids could just be kids without having to worry about bathrooms, pronouns, clothes, or any of the other stresses a trans youth lives with on a daily basis. At camp kids get to be themselves - playing games, creating costumes, designing family talent shows, and exploring the wild world of science (to name a few!).
The organization that housed us for the last four years has closed its doors, and in our earnest effort to keep going we're reaching out to our community (and beyond) for help. We've rebranded as 'Camp Indigo' (formerly Rainbow Day Camp) and are now a proud branch of Whole Human Project, a non profit dedicated to progressive social, emotional, and identity education. New name, new org, same amazing staff, same incredible mission.
We've created the most magical place, and now heading into our 5th year - we need your assistance to make camp more financially accessible for families. A week of camp costs a family $400 (pretty middle of the road for a summer camp), and the average scholarship is $200. With your help we'll be able to send at least 25 kids to camp who otherwise would not be able to afford to do so.
