Coronavirus Readathon:
Re-Stock the Shelves at the Westside Food Bank, April 2020

I’m Parker, a high school student at home because of Coronavirus in Los Angeles.  Food is flying off the shelves at the Westside Food Bank and need is setting record highs.  They emailed this week for emergency donations, (see wsfb.org website) and I want to help.

In 4th grade, my class raised over $10,000 in a Walkathon for the Westside Food Bank.  We can’t have a group walk now, but we can have a Readathon open to everyone.  Read something yourself or sponsor someone to read. The important part is to click the link and donate directly. 

At the Westside Food Bank 1 dollar equals 4 meals.  There’s no better or more effective way to help people all over Los Angeles right now!

Soup Club is a humanitarian effort based at Santa Monica High School that aims at reducing local and national hunger through volunteering, fundraising, donation collecting, and publicizing.

Unfortunately, due to the spread of COVID-19, many of our activities geared towards feeding the homeless have been cancelled. Current state and CDC protocol suggests that we stay home and stock up on goods, but it's easy to forget that these are luxuries many civilians don't have access to. 

All we ask is for our community to help us in our efforts to feed the homeless. Each dollar you donate equates to four meals provided to the homeless by the Westside Food Bank. 

It's times like these where food and home insecurity are intensified more than ever. With a huge proportion of food recipients being children, we hope that you'll be able to make a difference by helping us out.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated. If unable to donate, sharing our message with friends, family, and social media helps our cause as well.

Edit: We have reached our initial goal of $1,000 in just over 24 hours! That's about 4,000 meals! Now, we're setting the bar higher to $5,000! Let's do this everyone :)

Let’s celebrate our Pacific Palisades community spirit with a fun photography project. Our lives are on pause because of COVID-19 but I want to show how we are all adjusting to the new normal by relying on our shared communal values of gratitude, perseverance and hope. I’d also like to use the project to support the non-profit, Westside Food Bank, who are dedicated to feeding those suffering from the economic impacts of our shutdown.

My goal is to capture the love, joy, and cheer of families in the face of hardships during these challenging times. Starting today, I will stop by your house for a 5 minute "Front Porch Photo” session and send you a link to your digital image. In exchange, I am asking you to make a donation to the Westside Food Bank in Santa Monica. (Suggested amount is $50 but any amount is appreciated). I will be posting these images on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #PacificPaliadesFrontPorch. The project will thus engender communal spirit and let us see the faces we miss because of social distancing rules. Participating in this project will also help those who need it most right now.

The photo shoot will respect all social distancing rules—I will only be taking photos outside and from at least 10 feet away from you and your family. Our session will be very brief, typically around 5 minutes. This photoshoot is about you and your family, so feel free to dress up, dress down, be goofy, do something crazy, whatever you want.  Just be authentic to who you are!
