Help Kenec Support WDSRA Through Our “Summer of Kenec-tion” Event!

Kenec is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating inclusive communities by connecting neurodivergent students with neurotypical peers. Through shared experiences like learning dance, exploring sports, or simply spending time together building social skills, we help foster confidence, friendship, and mutual understanding.

This summer, we’re counting down to a special celebration — "Summer of Kenec-tion" — on August 16th at the Eola Community Center, Aurora IL. This event will honor the incredible progress made by our students and volunteers, highlight stories of connection and growth, and serve as the grand finale to our summer programming.

To make this event even more meaningful, we are raising funds to donate to WDSRA (Western DuPage Special Recreation Association) — an organization that shares our mission of empowering individuals of all abilities through recreational opportunities.

Your donation will help us support WDSRA’s incredible work in adaptive recreation and celebrate our students and volunteers in a meaningful way.

We aim to establish a scholarship fund in Kerry's name that will allow others to enjoy the WDSRA programs he had for so long. Kerry's memory should live on.

Our son, Kerry Fitzgerald, took advantage of WDSRA services and programs for more than 30 years until his passing in December 2021 at 41. He was severely and profoundly disabled from birth and persevered through cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and many orthopedic problems. He was non-ambulatory and non-verbal and suffered visual impairments. He had a wheelchair for mobility, and he could not stand alone, feed or dress. Still, he enjoyed the camaraderie and excitement of any WDRSA program in which he participated. He loved being with others and having friends nearby. He loved the activity, and most of all, he loved to eat. A WDSRA program that included any eating was his favorite.

Swimming teaches a child with Down's syndrome how to swim; Ceramics encourages a teen on the Autism spectrum to explore their creativity, and Spring Fling Prom invites adults with any disability out for a special night of dinner and dancing among their peers.
