WEIRA (Women’s Empowerment Immigrant Association) – a Northern California 501(c)(3) supporting Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking immigrant women facing crisis – domestic violence, difficult divorces, recent immigration.
Operating since 2023, fully volunteer-run (78 volunteers) we have supported 400+ women from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan and other post-Soviet countries with culturally tailored case management.
What we provide:
• Safety planning
• Emotional support
• Legal help (in some cases, full attorney-led representation)
• Career coaching
Our model is: from crisis to independence. Women arrive frightened and tangled in fear, they leave with safety, confidence, strength, independence, and a path to self-realization. All our services are free for our clients.
We receive ~20 new requests every week. Our rule: if we can help — we must.
Why we’re fundraising
Our programs are strong, but our team remains unfunded. We’re actively applying for grants and sponsorships, yet we need immediate community support to stay responsive.
Campaign goal: $150,000
Your gift will help us:
- Provide partial pay for key staff who deliver and coordinate services
- Sustain and strengthen free programs women rely on (safety planning, legal support, career coaching, ongoing case management)
