This campaign was created by WeCare, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Minnesota and founded by a Minnesota nurse, in loving memory of Alex Pretti- a Minnesota healthcare professional whose life was tragically and senselessly taken. Alex was one of our own-someone who dedicated their life to caring for others during their most vulnerable moments. In the wake of recent tragedies that have deeply affected our Minnesota communities and healthcare workforce at large, we are coming together to honor Alex's life and his dedication to caring for others throughout his life and career. We want to provide a heart centered space for people to come together, grieve, and hold one another up.
Funds raised through this campaign will be used in three meaningful ways:
First, donations will support the distribution of crisis intervention WeCare Boxes to the VA and local Level 1 trauma hospitals throughout the Twin Cities-particularly those most impacted by this past weekend and recent events. These boxes are intended to offer immediate emotional support and comfort to healthcare workers facing trauma, grief, and crisis.
Second, funds will help cover the costs of a remembrance vigil for Alex Pretti. We are anticipating a very large gathering of healthcare professionals from across the nation and the community of loved ones who want to honor Alex's life. This vigil will provide a safe and supportive space to grieve, to come together in solidarity, and to begin healing-not only for those who knew Alex personally, but for the entire healthcare workforce mourning the loss of one of their own.
Finally, this campaign will establish a future nursing scholarship in Alex’s name, of which $5000 has already been donated to by WeCare. The funds raised for this purpose will be entrusted to Alex’s family, who will determine how best to create and provide this scholarship in a way that reflects Alex’s values, compassion, and commitment to healthcare and service.
