We know little about what happened to Hazel before she was left at the shelter but our hearts are breaking for the pain and neglect she has endured in her first 6 months of life.  Emaciated and full of infection, she has a long road to recovery but  she has the best fosters and vets on her side to make sure she experiences only love and compassion from here on out. We know that Hazel will be a hefty medical bill for us but that she is what rescue is all about and we will promise to give her the best of care and find her the best forever family. We will keep you updated on her progress and are so appreciative of any donations you are able to offer. 

Please help Wags & Walks save little baby Sprout! On Monday morning we had quite the scare when he ate a laundry detergent pod and became critically ill. The foam from the detergent made its way into his lungs and it became difficult for him to breathe. He has had to undergo extensive treatment at the pet hospital but he is stable now.

Wags & Walks just rescued this sweet boy from the shelter, he is now known as Meatloaf!  What probably started out as simple allergies was left neglected for so long that it turned into a severe condition affecting Meatloaf's skin and ears.  His skin and ears are festering with massive infections - he is missing most of the fur on his rump/tail and his ears are infected with huge painful open sores.  We can only assume that Meatloaf has been suffering like this for many months, maybe years.  Wags & Walks has given Meatloaf a new lease on life, he is receiving expert veterinary care and lots of TLC at his foster home.  We have no doubt that he will recover from this, but it is a long slow healing process.  Please help Meatloaf get well!

3/6 update:  A few days into treatment for his skin,  Meatloaf started showing signs of an upper respiratory infection which rapidly got worse. Meatloaf went back to the vet and chest xrays confirmed that he has slight pneumonia, but we caught it early enough that he doesn't require hospitalization at this point. However, the xrays revealed another very serious surprise - Meatloaf has a large rock lodged in his stomach!  We don't know how long it has been there but it must be removed as soon as his pneumonia clears up.  A procedure like this will require a specialty surgeon to delicately remove the rock.  Once the rock is removed, Meatloaf  has an excellent prognosis and he is expected to make a full recovery with a long healthy life ahead of him now that he is getting the care he needs. Please help us get this sweet guy on the road to recovery! 

We need your help with our recent hoarding case!

A couple of weeks ago we received an urgent plea to help with an extreme hoarding case that one of our shelter partners was assisting with that involved 50+ small breed dogs, all coming from one home. We don't have all of the details of the situation, but we know that these dogs were living in conditions that lacked both medical and emotional care that they so badly needed.

With little to no information, our team and fosters stepped up and we have taken in 25 (!!) of these pups, and the medical costs have been extensive. All of the dogs were kept in cages -- some were living inside, but a lot were living outside under tarps. There was a pregnant mama a week away from giving birth and nine dogs requiring a full dental which costs over $900 each. Multiple dogs had ulcers that will take weeks of treatment and require care from specialists. The list goes on - but we made sure everyone has gotten the medical care they needed so they can move on to their forever homes.

These bills have been unexpected, especially during an already hectic and record-breaking month where we took in over 100 dogs (!!). We need your help to cover the costs for these pups.

A few days ago we received an urgent plea for a medical case at an overcrowded shelter. We've been taking in more medical than we expected lately, but with shelters full and more dogs at risk, we agreed that we had to help him. His name is Pickles and although has lived a life full of neglect, he greets everyone with a soft tail wag and gentle kisses.

Aside from being extremely underweight and missing fur over a large portion of his body and face that is either scarred over or extremely itchy - he has a tumor in his mouth. This tumor is painful and makes it challenging for him to eat. He needs surgery on this - and due to the location and delicacy of the procedure it is more costly than we expected. Pickles has a long road to recovery - but has the most incredible temperament and is soaking up all of the love and snuggles in his foster home. This is Chowder. He was taken to a shelter after he was attacked by another dog and severely wounded. This poor guy had gaping holes on his legs/armpit area from puncture wounds and tears. It was clear that he was used as a bait dog -- he has scars all over his legs from past attacks, and his K9s are filed down, which is a common trait of dogs used as bait in dogfighting. Due to the severity of his wounds and the risk of infection, we knew this boy needed a rescue and a visit to the animal hospital. Once he was in our care, we rushed him to the ER and scheduled follow-up appointments to make sure he gets the medical care he needs. On top of all of this, he is also Heartworm positive. His medical bills have already surpassed $800 for his injuries alone. 

Despite his condition and the trauma Chowder has been forced to endure, he is the absolute sweetest boy. He loves people and other dogs and could not be any more gentle and loving. We need your help to make sure this guy has everything he needs for a better future. No amount is too small.
