Save the Versailles Y
We are going to save the Y!
The Versailles YMCA is a vital institution in our community, essential to the health and wellbeing of our youth, seniors, and families.
Some stories from the Y in Versailles:
“After losing my husband, the Y became a source of fellowship and routine for me. Swimming laps, pickleball, fitness classes, and walking the track helped me stay active and connected. It has truly been a lifeline in maintaining my physical and emotional well-being.”
“My son has a rare disease and multiple brain surgeries. The Y’s accessible pool and locker rooms give him opportunities he wouldn’t have at a public pool. It’s one of the few places where he feels safe and included. Families like mine depend on this resource.”
“I joined water aerobics in my 50s to cope with arthritis. Over 12 years, I went from barely swimming 10 lengths to swimming a mile several times a week. This progress has kept me strong and mobile well into my 60s, and I cherish bringing my grandchildren here as well.”
“For more than 20 years, I visited the Y on my lunch breaks. Whether walking the track, lifting weights, or swimming laps, it gave me the balance I needed in life. Even on tough days, just walking through the doors and being greeted by familiar faces made a difference. The Y is not just exercise—it’s community.”
We need to finance the acquisition of the YMCA as well as number of deferred investments that will be needed to make the YMCA in Versailles sustainable.
The money raised from this campaign will go towards the following:
$800k – Acquisition of the facility from YMCA of Darke County.
$200k – Fitness equipment refresh.
$500k – HVAC replacement. All units are original, the AC in the pool is inoperable, and the gym lacks AC.
$190k – Parking lot
$150k – New roof, current roof leaks in several locations.
$50k – Misc maintenance items: floor, paint, cleaning, etc to bring the Y back to it’s former appearance.
$135k – Windows and doors. Many of the doors and windows are non-functional
If we fail to fundraise enough to save the Y, money will be returned to donors. If we don't hit our goal of $2M, we may still be able to take over the Y and work through investments over time. The more we invest now, the higher likelihood of saving the Y for decades to come.
“Versailles Girls Softball” is a 501c3 entity that is
acting as sponsor organization while the Save the
Y committee works towards formation and 501c3
status.
