Help Comp Sci High Replace SNAP Benefits for Bronx families
Why We Need Your Help…70% of Comp Sci High families rely on SNAP benefits to eat.
We are a high school in the South Bronx committed to ensuring that every one of our students achieves economic freedom by the age of 25. But, our students can't focus on the future and that lofty goal if their families can't afford food.
70% of our families receive some aid from SNAP benefits to help feed their family. But, because of the government shut down, those benefits have been delayed and cut by about half this month. That means, this month, a family of four relying on SNAP is getting about $500 less than normal, and they are getting it late if at all.
We tell our students they have to own their community, and we intend to practice what we preach. Right now, that means making sure every student, and family, in our community has enough to eat. We are working hard at school to prepare extra meals to send home, and we are providing direct aid in the form of grocery store gift cards and groceries for our families.
But, we have more need than we can cover out of our limited school budget. We need your help.
How You Can Help
Every dollar raised will go directly to grocery store gift cards and emergency household support for families most in need.
Here’s what your gift can do:
- $50 provides a week of direct food aid for a family in need.
- $200 ensures we can help one more family this month
- $1000 ensures that we can help five additional families this month.
