Trail work in memory of Deane
Deane enjoyed hiking and running the local trails while at Tuck, staying in Hanover a month after graduation so he could further explore the area. He was an officer of the Tuck Volunteers Club coordinating school-wide volunteer events which included trail work with the Upper Valley Trails Alliance (UVTA).
Deane's obituary photo was taken atop Gile Mountain in Vermont. He was in pain that day and expected to only hike partially up the mountain. However due to years of work by the UVTA constructing stairs and other trail improvements, Deane was able to make it to the top and enjoy the views from the fire tower.
We are fundraising to perform trail work in Deane's memory through the Upper Valley High School Trail Corps. Every $500 raised funds a day of trail work by the UV High School Trail Corps. Improvements to the regional trail network will help connect people and places while also promoting sustainable use of outdoor spaces. Once the trail work is completed in summer 2021, the names of the trails improved through this fundraiser will be added to the remembrance page so people can enjoy the trails in Deane's memory.
Potential trails:

Information on Upper Valley High School Trail Corps:
The Upper Valley High School Trail Corps is a transformative outdoor trail building and job training experience for students aged 15-18. The program not only trains young outdoor leaders, but also increases public access to trails and all related health and community benefits. The UV High School Trail Corps program not only helps provide crucial trail building and maintenance services to Upper Valley communities, but also bridges a prominent gap in the worlds of trail work and outdoor education. Once accepted to the program, High school students can sign up to participate in one of the trail corps’ five weeks during July and August. Students will work Monday – Friday of their assigned week from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM on trails throughout the Upper Valley. Participants will learn valuable trail building skills from UVTA’s staff members and will end the day with fun, outdoor adventures! At the end of the season, the UV High School Trail Corps improves ~50 miles of trail - we could not do this work without them.
