​​The Howard Ray Croft Memorial Scholarship has been established at the University of the District of Columbia to honor Howard Croft's passion for education and his deep love for the residents of the District of Columbia. Generous donors and family members have contributed to the Scholarship Fund; including Helima Croft's $5K donation directly to the UDC Foundation. Once the fund reaches $25,000, the scholarship will be endowed and a student will be selected annually for the scholarship.

This scholarship will be awarded to an energetic and bright graduate of a DC high school to pursue their undergraduate educational goals. Because Howard spent years teaching in the Lorton Prison College Program and advocating for opportunities for those who needed a second chance in life, formerly incarcerated individuals will also be eligible to receive the scholarship.

Howard Ray Croft was an Anacostia, Washington DC, resident known for his community leadership, political acumen, civil rights advocacy, and passion for statehood for the District of Columbia. Dr. Croft was a devoted professor at Federal City College and, eventually, the University of the District of Columbia. He taught for most of his career in the Urban Studies Department. His family is spearheading this initiative.
