To meet the growing demand to make KYXZ 107.9 FM, Low Power Community Radio available to listeners outside the area of our broadcast signal, we need to raise enough money to cover the annual music licensing and streamcast hosting fees. Because we are a community radio station it’s not a whole lot of money; just $3500 per year will enable us to better server our County of San Luis Obipso, CA and beyond!

Excellent Radio (1995-98) was among the early pioneers of the movement to create a process by which communities could legally apply for positions on the publicly owned airwaves.  The station was created as a model that became an inspiration to many other communities throughout the United States.

In 1998 the Grover Beach City Council issued an official proclamation recognizing Excellent Radio for broadcasting City Council meetings for three years and providing...

Today through a coming together of groups like United Way, and friends and advocates for the local county libraries, the likelihood of successful community strengthening is huge! The new Excellent Radio will be dedicated to fostering….
   • Cross–Generational respect
   • Cultural Literacy 
   • Recognition of the Libraries as the centerpiece of the community (The Commons) 
   • Mentoring through United Way’s outreach programs of Health, Education and Income
    
This station will support strengthening and educating our community for years to come. What better gift for our children could we give today?

UNITED WAY OF SLO COUNTY ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF “WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL” SOCIAL JUSTICE FUND.

On July 4th, United Way of San Luis Obispo will launch its “With Liberty and Justice for All” fund. This fund comes in the wake of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbury. The murders of Floyd, Taylor, and Arbury have served as the catalyst to a long overdue conversation about race in America. They have resulted in people around the globe speaking out about the enduring legacy of American chattel slavery.

United Way believes that every person is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect – this includes equal treatment and access to justice. Recent events involving violence and threats against African Americans expose our society’s underlying racism, prejudice and privilege that prevent too many people from being treated with the humanity and respect they deserve. These incidents are abhorrent and run counter to everything that United Way, its volunteers and professionals value, live and fight for every day.

In response to recent events, and in keeping with our mission and values, UWSLO is launching the “With Liberty and Justice for All” fund. Contributions to this fund will exclusively be used to support work in our community that is aimed at dismantling the structural inequality that makes it impossible for us to truly #LIVEUNITED.

Our commitment to a just, equitable, and inclusive San Luis Obispo County extends beyond the creation of this fund, and into a newly established series of workshops, community conversations, presentations and more. This new Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiative is our way of demonstrating to the residents of our county that we are willing to begin the difficult work of helping to heal our nation.

Our nation will celebrate Independence and Freedom on the 4th of July. We will celebrate the words that make up our national identity: With Liberty and Justice for All. We can think of no better day to announce the creation of this fund. In the spirit of a truly United country, we invite you to make a contribution to the “Liberty and Justice for All” fund.
