United Way of Southeast Louisiana

In late August, Hurricane Ida swept through Louisiana, leaving a trail of destruction and devastating countless Louisiana residents on Katrina's 16th anniversary.

As many of you know, my freshman semester at Tulane University in New Orleans was upended due to this hurricane. I am home now for the month of September while the campus is repaired, re-powered and made safe for our return. While I wait to get back to campus, I wanted to use this time at home productively and help the victims of the storm in some way.

I am running a small financial fundraiser for the United Way of Southeast Louisiana and their Hurricane Ida Relief Fund, and am asking for your support. If you are able to help, donations of any size will be gladly accepted via the GoFundMe link. (If you prefer to use Venmo my address is @ryanhowie3, and I will transfer your contribution to the campaign). Your donations will go directly to the United Way of Southeast Louisiana.

The United Way of Southeast Louisiana is a 100 year old trusted institution endorsed by the city of New Orleans and a federally registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation. The mission of this organization is focused on eradicating poverty in Southeast Louisiana. Through ongoing community programs, they fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community. The United Way of Southeast Louisiana also responds to local disasters and has established the special Hurricane Ida Relief Fund, which will help families get back in their homes, rebuild schools and businesses, and give the vulnerable the care they need. Donations will fund immediate relief efforts already underway and long-term rebuilding and community grants to local partner organizations providing directing service to assist with recovery.

Once I am back on campus, I will have the opportunity to work in a service capacity with groups of other Tulane students on projects that help repair and rebuild the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas. In the meantime, I greatly appreciate your support of my fundraiser for this worthy local organization.

Hurricane Laura and now Hurricane Delta have created catastrophic damage across Louisiana and in the lives of thousands of our neighbors.

United Way of Southeast Louisiana launched its Hurricane Laura Disaster Fund to help its neighbors in Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jefferson Davis Parishes. 100% of proceeds will go to immediate response efforts, long-term recovery efforts, fulfilling unmet needs, and providing grants to community partners who provide direct services to assist with recovery.

As Louisianans, we understand the meaning of paying it forward and giving back. If we want to recover as a Who Dat Nation, we must join together, United, to help our neighbors in need.
