On 28th July 2025, I found my dad, Gary, unconscious and unresponsive.

He was rushed to East Surrey Hospital, where doctors quickly diagnosed sepsis and septic shock. His organs were beginning to fail, and he was minutes from losing his life.

Dad spent over four months in hospital and had to undergo a 10-hour open heart surgery as a complication of sepsis. If the paramedics and doctors hadn’t recognised sepsis when they did, he simply wouldn’t be here today.

The money raised will go to the UK Sepsis Trust, supporting their work to raise awareness, improve recognition, and help save lives through earlier diagnosis and treatment.

Sepsis claims millions of lives worldwide, yet many deaths are preventable with timely treatment.

Dad is one of the lucky ones.

My name is Hannah I’m 15 years old. I was born with a condition called arthrogryposis multiplex conjenita which affected all my joints and especially my spine. On the 6th may 2022 I had a full spinal fusion at Edinburgh Children’s hospital but this resulted in me contracting sepsis. I was very poorly and it was unclear as to whether or not I’d pull through. The sepsis trust is very close to my heart as my grandad also passed away from sepsis in 2017. I’d love to raise as much as I can for this charity. My aim is to complete the highland swing jump in February 2026 which I’m very excited for. Thank you for supporting me I appreciate every penny we can raise for this charity xx

On 29th March 2026, I will be running a half marathon in Sheffield in memory of my dad, Simon Oxby, who passed away tragically and suddenly from sepsis on 6th July 2025. His passing has completely altered our lives forever in many ways. This run encourages me to keep going, stay positive, and do my best just as my dad always taught us.

I will be raising money for The Sepsis Trust to support awareness, education, and research, with the hope that the understanding of sepsis may help protect others and prevent future loss. All donations are so much appreciated, thank you!

In 2018, my dad who was 67 years old suddenly became ill and unfortunately his GP missed all of the warning signs of his symptoms. He was told to go home and rest. Less than a week later he passed away from Sepsis. If he had received treatment straight away, then he would still be here today. Sepsis is known as the silent killer and if it isn't diagnosed or treated promptly, it can cause death in as little as 12 hours!

Sepsis kills more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined , however there are millions of people that aren't aware of this awful life threatening condition.

For the past few years, I've been wanting to take part in a challenge to raise money for the UK Sepsis Trust in memory of my dad. I wanted to do something completely out of my comfort zone and decided on a skydive. However, after a discussion with my doctor, he strongly recommended not to, as I have metal rods in my back due to curvature of my spine. After researching other events, I've decided to take part in a Wing Walk challenge at Gloucestershire Airfield next April. This involves standing on the wing of a moving biplane in flight, performing acrobatic maneuvers like dives and turns at speeds of up to 130mph.

I aim to raise £1,000 in my dad's memory. Your donations will support the Sepsis Trust in their vital work. Your generosity will mean the world to me, our family, and all those fighting this silent killer.

I am fundraising for Sepsis UK in aid of my grandad who has managed to fight off these horrible infection 4 times.

He recently was admitted to hospital for the 4th time with this awful infection, and despite everything is fighting it off again. He is remarkable, but I was shocked at how little research there is into this, and how little work is done to prevent it from happening.

He is still in hospital, with very minimal answers as of yet. But he’s still pushing through. 

I have been looking into running the 1/2 marathon for a while, and when sepsis UK popped up with charity spaces, it was definitely a sign!! After running the Brighton Marathon in 2023, I am looking forward to enjoying this 1/2.

Hi, my name is Mahshid (Mash) and I will be running my first half marathon! I will be running the Oxford half to support Sepsis UK.

In 2022, a close friend of mine, Taz became critically ill. Taz was displaying flu like symptoms but it turned out that she had an invasive Strep A infection which led to sepsis, and caused septic arthritis.

After a traumatic stay in ICU, she has been on a difficult recovery journey as she attempts to return to professional dance. Taz was initially told that she would not be able to dance again, but was determined to prove otherwise whilst making it her mission to educate others about sepsis.

As she continues on her recovery journey, Taz is now an active volunteer with UKST, and has helped share her experience by giving talks at a nurses conference in Oxford, and is also raising awareness on social media.

Taz is an incredibly resilient young woman and such an inspiration. She has worked so hard to be able to successfully dance again, but her journey has by no means been easy and without its setbacks.

Sepsis UK supported Taz with her road to recovery so any donations would be greatly appreciated to help people like Taz shine once again.

This September, our work team is taking on an incredible challenge: 3 million steps to raise money and awareness for the UNITED KINGDOM SEPSIS TRUST – a cause that’s especially close to our hearts.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that can affect anyone, at any time. Sadly, a couple of our own colleagues have experienced the devastating impact of sepsis firsthand. Their stories, strength, and recovery journeys have inspired us to come together and take action.

We’ll be walking, jogging, and moving every single day throughout September, working as a team to hit our goal of 3 million collective steps. Every step we take is a step towards saving lives, funding critical research, and supporting those affected by this silent killer.

As part of this effort, on the 11th of September we’re taking on a special challenge walk — covering 19 miles in a single day, which is around 47,000 steps per person! It's a tough task, but one we’re determined to complete to honour those affected by sepsis and push our campaign even further.

In July 2024, I became unwell very quickly with a fast heart rate, fever & muscle pain. 24 hour laters, I was admitted to critical care with sepsis caused by a bacterial bloodstream infection. Within hours, I went from being unwell, to fighting for my life. My organs began to shut down due to the sepsis, and I went into multiple organ failure - both my kidneys and liver starting failing fast to the point where I nearly required filtration. I also developed DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation), so my clotting levels were extremely dangerous, and I had extremely low HBs and platelets but with a high INR (making the risk of internal bleeding extremely high) I spent 5 days in critical care & a total of 3 weeks in hospital recovering. But, that was just the start of my recovery. It took months to build up my energy again & the psychological impact lasted a lot longer (and still does).

I am one of the lucky ones, and made a full recovery from sepsis. However, 1 in 5 people loose their life every 24 hours. This number is way too high for a condition that can be treated if caught early enough. I am grateful everyday to be here & for the medical team - especially the critical care team who saved my life.

The UK sepsis trust works to educate the community & hospitals in sepsis, to improve outcomes & raise awareness. They also support people affected by sepsis, including me. They provided me with support during my recovery - including phone calls with their nurses, support groups, and allowed me to understand why things happened & what I could expect in my recovery. This made me feel less alone & scared and meant I got to where I am today. I recently qualified as a paediatric nurse, and that is something I didn’t know if I’d be able to achieve in the midst of sepsis. I’ll now use my own experience & all I’ve learned from the UK sepsis trust to help others and hopefully see more positive outcomes like mine. Even if you can’t donate, please make yourself aware of the charity and the incredible things they do - and make yourself aware of the sepsis signs. It might save yours or someone you loves life in the future.
