Turning Point Center of Addison County

I am running an 88K Trail Marathon on Saturday May 28th, 2022 dedicating this run to my son Michael Piper who lost his battle with opioid addiction on July 23, 2020. Michael did a stretch of the long trail about 40 miles with a friend his last week before leaving this green earth. He had a fantastic time and commented several times that he now really understood what it was like to run these crazy trails and it was the best high of his life.

My goal here is to assist the folks at Turning Point with their quest to move into a larger facility that will help them with the mission to support all those in need. More information about Turning Point Center of Addison County: Providing peer-based recovery support to all; we seek to enhance the spiritual, mental, physical, and social growth of our community affected by substance use disorders and addictive behaviors. Hosting peer support meetings such as SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery, and 12-step meetings, community prevention meetings, one-to-one support, educational and volunteer opportunities, and substance use free recreation we work to build a healthier today and a brighter tomorrow.

The Turning Point Center of Addison County is proud to host our First Annual “Hope in Motion” 5K and 1K Walk/Run and Wellness Fair, a powerful event bringing our community together to remember those we've lost to addiction, celebrate those in recovery, and support those still fighting.

Event Date: Sunday, September 28th, 2025

Location: 55 Collins Drive, Middlebury, Vermont

Race Start Time: 9:00 AM

This is more than just a race, it’s a movement of remembrance, connection, and hope. We invite you to donate in memory of someone you’ve lost to addiction or in honor of someone you love in recovery and, if you wish, send us their photo and a short message about what makes them so special. These tributes will be displayed along the race route as part of Stories in Motion; a living, visual narrative of lives and journeys that inspire us to keep moving forward.

Why We’re Running

Every step we take is for a friend, a sibling, a parent, a child; someone who matters.

Addiction has touched nearly every family in our community. This event is a chance to walk or run in memory of those we’ve lost, to stand beside those still struggling, and to celebrate the courage of those in recovery. Together, we can turn pain into purpose and keep hope alive.
