We are going to start making cuts in our overall financial budget and programs in order to continue….Over the past ten years, our rescue has operated without fear of shutting down or cutting our assistance to pets in need. Unfortunately, over the past year, we have been hit with many unknowns and now it has come to a point where we HAVE to make changes or our program will not survive 2025…..
The major change that we have tried to endure is loosing our food distribution program. This is no fault of anyone’s - More corporations are choosing other avenues to distribute their goods and many of those avenues do not include rural Alabama. This alone has lead to a cost of over $2,100 weekly to feed the dogs in our care. Imagine having 120 just large breed kennels - all of which are full. It takes a tremendous amount of food to keep us going day to day.
Our vetting budget has changed dramatically. Due to the rising costs of supplies and pet food, it has cut our vetting budget down significantly. While we never turned away medical cases in the past, we will not have that advantage anymore. This is the same with senior pets. We have never put an age limit on our assistance, but with seniors comes added care and we are just not able to continue to fund their needs. We want to make sure our rescue pets have the very best - and we can’t intake these pets if we can’t make sure that happens.
Our intakes will be reduced across the board on cats, dogs and small animals. While we have never put any restrictions on intake besides space, we will need to start placing guidelines on what animals we can take. We have also thrown around the idea of intake fees, which we have never done, to help offset our intake costs. As of right now, we are holding off on that because many of those who come to us needing assistance are not in the position to pay fees. But one day soon, restricted intakes and intakese fees may be an option we have to explore.
We always want to be up front and honest with our donors and supporters. We will need to start implementing these changes in the next few weeks unless things take a dramatic turn, which we have been praying for months would happen. We, like many other rescues, are truly struggling and are trying to do the best we can to weather the storm. We will continue to do the very best that we can with the funding that we have. We truly appreciate your support. Together, we have made a huge difference in the lives of many rescue pets and we hope to continue for many years to come.
Now more than ever, your donations mean the world to our program and our rescue pets. As we continue to provide for the over 300 pets in our program, we desperately need donations to cover their daily supplies and care. Donations can be made directly to our rescue via:
