Legacy of Peace: Alan Silverman's Olive Grove
Dear Friends of Alan Silverman,
It’s hard to grasp that it’s been seven years. Alan’s spirit still lingers—just the other day, I felt a sharp twinge in my back and thought of him, that ageless soul who seemed immune to life’s aches and pains. He stayed so effortlessly young, didn’t he?
One thing Alan cherished was trees—their quiet strength, their promise of peace. He was also a BIG fan of peace (because, hey, who isn’t these days?). And so in his memory, how about planting a small olive tree grove in the West Bank? One last hurrah for our buddy in a region where planting and peace really count.
Picture this: 250 olive trees, fenced and irrigated, planted for a farmer struggling under the occupation. The farm would be planted by the Palestinian Farmers Union, who has already cultivated 70 such thriving farms. These trees wouldn’t just stand as symbols of peace—they would be agents of prosperity. Olive trees live for 500 years, and each year, Alan's farm would produce $36,000 worth of olive oil, offering a lifeline for the farmer and their community—a legacy as lasting and giving as Alan himself.
The farm would bear a wooden sign in Alan’s honor.
I would be happy to coordinate everything and share photos once the farm is complete. Planting 250 trees, fenced for protection from settlers, and an irrigation system costs roughly $7,500—a small sum for a farm that will live on for centuries.
Shall we do this together—one final remembrance for our boy, planting seeds of hope and sustenance in his name, in a land yearning for his kindness and light?
