Tree of Life – USA is an American non-profit organization created for and committed to caring for orphans and children in difficult situations. Our organization tells the stories of the children we serve to raise awareness of their daily reality and to also raise financial means to help meet their needs since they are not able to do this for themselves. We are committed to offering hope to the hopeless.

Since moving to Benin in 2010, Jon and Ashley Barchus have taken over the majority of the responsibilities of not just being parents to the children but also the running of the non-profit organization in Benin. The Barchus’ joined others serving the community in order to defend orphans and help give them hope for a future. In a country where over 10% of children do not live to their 5th birthday, child labor is a severe problem  because of the lack of financial means, and medical care is not provided without money, we believe in being responsible with our resources and helping those in need. Since these children don’t have parents to provide for them, we will stand in their place. We are a group of dedicated people who want to see these children grow and succeed.

Sponsorship money is not only used for our children at the orphanage but also for dozens of children who are in our program and still live with family in their home villages. These children are in their homes with either their parents or other family members and are being cared for but cannot afford the fees and supplies to attend school in Benin.

This page was created in hopes of raising money to cover the education costs for these children.  The orphanage must pay for books, uniforms, meals and tuition for the children to attend school.  Unfortunately, public education in Benin is not free so donations are needed to ensure these children can receive an education and work towards a better future.
