Two years ago, when the pandemic prevented us from using the public school grounds to deliver our literacy programs, we went in a new direction by renting space in a house in El Hato to continue our work. Your support made that happen!

Now we've outgrown that space and have rented a bigger house so that we can help even more children and their families. Please consider donating to support the higher costs we'll incur in the new space.

In their own words, here's what your support has meant to some of the families in El Hato:

Thank you so much for helping El Hato's children!

Maria Ofelia is 32 years old and a mother of three children living in the community of El Hato. "I am happy to see that my children are able to progress in the school," says Ofelia. "I don't know how to read. It was very difficult when I was a child. We were poor and I had to work the land with my dad. There wasn't food. I remember eating smashed tomatoes with salt all the time." And, "I want to give the best to my children, but we only buy what we can. About nutrition, she says, "Everyone has people in their family with health issues as a result of bad nutrition."

 

Maria Ofelia’s three children, aged 12, 11 and 8, are regular participants in our library program. "Thanks to the help of ‘Seño’ Adriana at the library, I have seen great progress in my children. My husband and I can't help them with most things because we don't have the knowledge, and that's why we are so thankful for Adriana and the project. Even now, with the pandemic, Adriana is always there to help and guide them, and my children now understand better how to do their homework."

 

Help us ensure Adriana's salary for 2022

 

We’d like to introduce you to Adriana, our Library Coordinator. She is a degreed and licensed teacher and a Guatemalan native. A mother of two who lives in a neighboring community, Adriana facilitates our tutoring program, vacation camp program, community days, and vegan cooking sessions, among many other responsibilities. Through her years of working in El Hato, she has built a relationship of trust and respect that beautifully illustrates our crucial role in support of nutrition and education for the children of the community.

 

Since our founding in 2018, Together We Can Guatemala has worked with love, respect, and dedication to implement our garden and library programs, paying special attention to the environment, nutrition, and literacy. Thanks to our staff, donors, and supporters, our programs have had a positive impact on more than 3,000 children and adults.

 

Salaries are one of the most vital but difficult expenses for nonprofit organizations to obtain funding for, especially when it comes to long-term positions. Your contribution will help pay more than half of Adriana’s salary. Thank you for getting to know Adriana better and please help us continue her role in the El Hato community!

Ayuda a que Adriana continúe su trabajo en El Hato

María Ofelia tiene 32 años, es madre de tres hijos y vive en la comunidad de El Hato. "Me alegra ver que mis hijos pueden progresar en la escuela", dice Ofelia. "No sé leer. Era muy difícil cuando era niña. Éramos pobres y tenía que trabajar la tierra con mi papá. No había comida. Recuerdo comer tomates triturados con sal todo el tiempo". "Quiero dar lo mejor a mis hijos, pero solo compramos lo que podemos”. Sobre la nutrición, dice," Todos tienen personas en sus familias con problemas de salud como resultado de una mala nutrición".
 
Los tres hijos de María Ofelia, de 12, 11 y 8 años, participan habitualmente en nuestro programa de biblioteca. “Gracias a la ayuda de 'Seño' Adriana en la biblioteca, he visto un gran progreso en mis hijos. Mi esposo y yo no podemos ayudarlos en la mayoría de las cosas porque no tenemos el conocimiento, y por eso estamos tan agradecido con Adriana y con el proyecto. Incluso ahora, con la pandemia, Adriana siempre está ahí para ayudarlos y guiarlos, y mis hijos ahora entienden mejor cómo hacer sus deberes".

Nos gustaría presentarles a Adriana, nuestra Coordinadora de Biblioteca. Ella es maestra titulada y licenciada y nativa de Guatemala. Madre de dos hijos, viviendo en una comunidad vecina, Adriana facilita nuestro programa de tutoría, programa de campamento de verano, días comunitarios y sesiones de cocina vegana, entre muchas otras responsabilidades. A lo largo de sus años de trabajo en El Hato, ha construido una relación de confianza y respeto que ilustra maravillosamente nuestro papel crucial en el apoyo a la nutrición y la educación de los niños de la comunidad.
 
Desde nuestra fundación en 2018, Together We Can Guatemala ha trabajado con amor, respeto y dedicación para implementar nuestros programas de jardinería y biblioteca, prestando especial atención al medio ambiente, la nutrición y la alfabetización. 
 
Gracias a nuestro personal, donantes y colaboradores, nuestros programas han tenido un impacto positivo en más de 3,000 niños y adultos.
 
Los salarios son uno de los gastos más vitales pero difíciles de obtener para las organizaciones sin fines de lucro, especialmente cuando se trata de puestos a largo plazo. Su contribución ayudará a pagar más de la mitad del salario de Adriana.
