Help our community be prepared for a future major disaster!

We are soliciting donations to help us replace the power generator and well pump house at the Coyle Community Center. All donations are tax deductible.

What is the Toandos Emergency Preparedness Association (TEPA)?

The Toandos Emergency Preparedness Association 501c3 which was formed in 2019 to educate and assist residents in to prepare for, survive and recover from an emergency. TEPA will oversee emergency operations and resources on the Toandos Peninsula in Jefferson County, WA. TEPA has developed a proven detailed disaster response capability including the set-up of an Emergency Response Center (ERC) at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center utilizing the considerable assets staged there.

When the peninsula becomes isolated in an emergency, TEPA will:

• Coordinate search and rescue efforts

• Provide medical care when none is available

• Provide a communication network within the community as well as to the outside world

TEPA has been recognized as the foremost authority on disaster preparedness for the Toandos peninsula. We are FEMA compliant with an Incident Command System. TEPA is connected with the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management, DART (Disaster Air Response Team), the local Ham Radio system and Quilcene Fire Rescue. TEPA is recognized by both the state of Washington and the US government (IRS) as a 501c3.

Why does TEPA matter?

Emergency preparedness as a community is critical to our peninsula. In any regional disaster, the remote Toandos peninsula will be isolated and cut off physically from needed resources. Hundreds of residents will possibly find themselves without power, clean water, food, gasoline, propane, medical care/supplies and without the PUD District #1 and Quilcene Fire Rescue response efforts. TEPA’s viability is dependent upon our partnership with the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center as the site for the ERC, all current supplies and a designated Medevac landing zone approved by Airlift NW.

TEPA and Your Community Needs Your Help!

Although the basic supplies are in place, we are now in need of several significant emergency capital improvements at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center. The Center has often relied on outside funding partnerships for capital improvements. TEPA is stepping up this time for these vital resources that the community relies upon. TEPA is seeking funding for the following projects to support providing water, electricity and communications to our community:

• New Well Pump House – The well pump house needs replacement. Without access to potable water, TEPA cannot provide medical care nor will the community have the accessible drinking water that many depend upon for their daily living.

• New Generator – The current generator is well past its expected service life. If the generator fails during an emergency, there will be no electricity to support the well, provide medical care or provide communication within the community or to the outside world. In addition, the building will be without heat.

The total cost of these two critical projects is $25,000.

Any funds received in excess of the cost for the new well pump house and generator will be retained for upcoming TEPA expenses like further improvements, medical supplies and communication upgrades.
