Less than one-third of new plays produced by the American mainstream theatre establishment in any given year are written by women. As the industry watchdog Theatre Communications Group noted in its 2017 report on gender parity: “when it comes to the status of female playwrights in the American theatre, the long arc of history is bending toward parity—but so slowly, almost imperceptibly, that you’d be forgiven for despairing.” 3Girls Theatre Company was founded in 2011 for the express purpose of challenging the status quo. Our nonprofit theatre company is dedicated to ensuring that stories told by women are seen on stage just as often as stories told by men. We’re determined to change that cultural bias! That’s why 3GT proudly develops, produces and promotes only plays written by women,
