These headlines abound.
There are a lot of private screenings popping up around the country and we want some of Kansas City’s students experience this film. We want to send kids to Wakanda for a day. Thus, we need your help with #KCKidstoWakanda!
"We all see stories like this on Twitter and I feel like these stories always happen in big cities and I was like, "Why can't Kansas City be the big city,'" said Carrington Harrison, host of The Drive on KCPS 610 am. "It's never somewhere like Kansas City and this is a moment for us to make something like that happen here."
We're trying to reward students from three neighborhood elementary schools who've shown great performance according to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Annual Performance Rating -- Hale Cook (100 percent), Pitcher (99 percent) and Whittier (92.9 percent).
When the $6,000 goal is reached, fourth, fifth and sixth graders from these schools and students from the Derrick Thomas/Neil Smith Third and Long Foundation will attend a private screening of "Black Panther" on Feb. 21, 22nd or 23rd. And...they'll get BBQ from Gates & Sons BBQ for lunch.
"It's important that our students have positive reinforcements when they are academically successful and they do their part to contribute to an overall healthy school system," said Matthew Oates, the KCPS Sub-District 2 Board Member. " This is a great opportunity to show them that we're proud of their efforts in the classroom."
