Therapists for Armenia

Therapists for Armenia (TFA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance the fields of occupational, physical, and speech therapy, to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, and to foster well being within Armenian communities through education, collaboration, support, and advocacy. Established in 2019, TFA has grown into a dynamic team of 26 volunteers from various therapy backgrounds across the US and Canada.

Relationships with key stakeholders are imperative to our efforts. We work closely with rehabilitation associations and institutions based in Armenia to support their identified needs, challenges, and strengths. We also work in partnership with local disability advocacy organizations to center the social justice and health equity needs of Armenians with disabilities, who are key consumers of rehabilitation services.

Over the past 4 years we have led several humanitarian efforts, including sending volunteers to support wounded soldiers during the 2020 Artsakh War, creating the first resource library for rehabilitation providers in Armenia, donating therapeutic equipment to the National Burn Center to support patients from the 2023 Artsakh gas-station explosion, and co-founding the first Armenian post-professional program focused on post-conflict and adult rehabilitation.

In July 2024, we will embark on our first service and learning trip as an organization. Several of our volunteers will be traveling to Armenia to collaborate with our partners on challenging cases, distribute therapeutic supplies that are not accessible in Armenia, and deliver rehabilitation workshops and hands-on training sessions. Our goal is to support high quality rehabilitation services and promote social inclusion for marginalized populations.
