Our little boy, Robin, is currently critically unwell and receiving care at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle.

During this incredibly difficult time, the Sick Children’s Trust has given us something priceless: a safe place to stay close to him.

Thanks to their support, Anthony and I are able to stay at Scott House at the Freeman Hospital, just minutes from Robin’s bedside. Being nearby means we can be with him when he needs us most, day and night, without the added worry of travel, accommodation costs, or being separated at such a frightening time.

Scott House is also home to other families this Christmas, parents whose children are seriously ill, all facing days they never imagined. The Sick Children’s Trust provides free accommodation, warmth, understanding, and a sense of community when families are living through their hardest moments.

So many friends and family have asked how they can help us practically right now. Setting up this fundraiser feels like a way to channel that kindness into something that not only supports us, but also helps other families who are going through similar heartbreak — now and in the future.

Every donation helps the Sick Children’s Trust continue to provide a home-from-home for families who need to be close to their seriously ill children. We are endlessly grateful for their care, and for the love and support surrounding us during this overwhelming time.

We’re walking 10K to keep families together when they need it most.

On the 4th September our colleagues at CBRE MACW division are taking on a 10K walk from London Bridge to Daltson to raise vital funds for The Sick Children’s Trust, a charity that provides free accommodation and emotional support to families with seriously ill children in hospital.

When a child becomes critically ill, it’s a terrifying time for any parent. The Sick Children’s Trust offers a lifeline, a warm, welcoming place to stay, just minutes from their child’s hospital bedside. This simple but powerful support allows families to stay together, easing some of the emotional and financial pressure during the most difficult moments of their lives.

We believe that no family should be separated when their child is fighting for their life.

That’s why we’re lacing up our trainers and walking 10 kilometers to raise funds so this amazing charity can continue its vital work. Every donation, big or small, will go directly towards keeping families close.

The Story:

Eckersley House was originally opened in 1993 at St James’s Hospital following a bequest of my Grandfather Robert Eckersley. My family has been involved in this branch of The Sick Children’s Trust for nearly half a century and so it has a deep meaning to me. I am extremely determined to contribute to this life changing charity, which has helped thousands of families since its creation. As a result, I will be running the Chatsworth House 15km run in order to raise money and awareness in support of Eckersley House on the 14th of September.

The Charity:

Eckersley House supports families with a sick child being treated at Leeds Children’s Hospital by giving them a welcoming and supportive place to stay just minutes from their seriously ill child’s hospital bedside.

Final Words:

Your donations will be supporting over 3,500 families with seriously ill children making sure that parents can be by their children’s side for every step of medical treatment . You’re not only helping these children through immensely difficult times but also their families who put on a brave face masking their pain for their children everyday.

Hi, we’re the Ince family, Chris, Megan, Percy & Jesse. And we’re raising money for The Sick Children’s Trust Charity.

In August 2024 our baby, Jesse, was born 5 weeks early at Jessop’s Hospital. We knew at 32 weeks pregnant that Jesse was seriously ill and that he would need surgery within the first weeks of his life.

When Jesse decided to make a surprise appearance earlier than planned, this added to his complications, things became more serious and Jesse became more ill.

For anyone, bringing a new baby into the world is meant to be a happy and joyous time. But for us, our days just seemed dark, long and full of worry. Our baby was poorly and there was nothing we, as parents, could do to help him.

Our mental health took a huge dive. It was a massive struggle, day in day out. We spent most of our time full of tears, sadness and we had very little hope. We just kept asking ourselves, Why? How has this happened? Why our baby? What’s going to happen to him? Are we going to be able to take him home? What happens now? When can we hold him? Why isn’t he getting better? Why us? Why him?

And not only did we have a poorly new born baby living on the NSU ward at Sheffield Children’s Hopsital. But we also had our other son, Percy, living miles away at his Nanna & Grandad’s house, asking questions like ‘when is my mummy and daddy coming home’ ’when can I see my baby brother’. And sometimes, phone calls & FaceTime just aren’t enough.

We were longing to be home together as a family, just as we imagined we would be. Everything normal, everything fine, just, at home.

This is where we will be forever grateful for The Sick Children’s Trust. They gave us a room to stay at their Magnolia house in Sheffield. Just a quick 2 minute walk away from the NSU ward. And we could stay here, for free, for as long as we needed. We had a bed to try and rest our heads after the long hospital days. We had support from the staff who were there for chats about our worries or just chats to take our mind off things. We had a kitchen to be able to prepare food and a dining table to eat at. We had bed linen provided, towels, toiletries, places to do our laundry, a cleaner, a living room with sofas & a tv.

We had a ‘Home from Home’ and the best part… We had a place where Percy could come and stay with us and be together as a family. Which is just what we needed.

We spent the first few weeks of Jesse’s life at the Magnolia House. And we stayed again for a few days when we had to go back for his surgery and while he was in recovery.

The Sick Children's Trust's mission is to provide high quality 'Home from Home' accommodation for families whose children are receiving hospital treatment for serious illnesses. And that’s what we had, we had a home.

To help raise money for this charity that will forever be important to us, we’re going to be taking on a challenge of walking 100 miles in 1 month.

Starting on the day of Jesse’s 1st birthday! Sunday 10th August.

Us and the charity are grateful for any amount of money raised, to go towards helping other families in need, just like we were.

Hi , my name is Ryan and I'm wanting to raise money for the charity close to my heart, The sick children's Trust.

My little girl emilie was born on the 14th June 2023. She was born very poorly with sepsis, pneumonia, and a very nasty virus in her stomach that we still don't know what it was . She couldn't breathe on her own so needed a ventilator to help her.

She now suffered with a condition called anoxic seizures. This can then make her go into an epileptic seizures.

On a bad day she will have between 5-7 of these.

As distressing as it is to not only me and my wife , her 2 older sisters who are 4 and 7yrs old have had to watch us give medication to her daily , or paramedics having to get her into a stable position, for her to be blue lighted to hospital .

43 miles is the equal distance of all 3 hospitals that have been under her care from our home . Wakefield, Barnsley and Leeds.

The sick children's Trust is a charity that helped our family when emilie was based in Leeds. Both me and my wife lived on her ward for a week before we found the sick children's Trust. They offered us a place to stay over the road from emilie and food if we needed.

Emilie has had an emendous fight for life so far so 43mile will be a breeze compared to what she has had.

I invite both friends and family to help show support.

Last week my daughter was taken to a&e with breathing issues and within an hour she was placed in a medically induced coma.

It was terrifying and if it wasn’t for the amazing staff at both hospitals and the embrace team I don’t think I would have held it together.

Embrace transported us to Sheffields children hospital where we were given a room for my partner and I to stay in so we could be close by. Both of these services were incredible.

I just want to try and give a little something back because the support we received made such a difference. And I want other families to receive this level of care too.

My daughter is now home and healthy again thanks to the amazing health professionals. If you can afford to give anything it would be incredible. Thank you, so much.

Hi, a lot of my friends know I enjoy a drink, especially on a darts night. So, starting in 2025, I’m going to kick-start a healthier lifestyle with Dry January. It’ll be my first time doing Dry January.

I thought I could also try to raise some money for an amazing charity that’s very close to our hearts, as they helped us when our son was younger.
