NECC 5K Run/Walk for Autism 2019
New England Center for Children (NECC) is a non-profit Autism research and education center dedicated to transforming the lives of children with Autism world wide. My 15 year old brother Sam Pacheco was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorder at the young age of two years old. When Sam turned seven, he became a student at New England Center for Children and it has changed his life for the better. The progress my family and I have seen from him because of this organization gives us hope that he will reach his maximum potential. NECC has accepted my brother as one of their own. Through them, Sam has had opportunities that prior to his enrollment my family thought was unreachable. An aspect of NECC that makes them so special is their residential care in which over 120 students (including Sam) from ages 3-22 years of age are enrolled. This aspect of NECC has revolutionized the life of my brother and my family. It has reinstated the happiness we once lost knowing that our Sam is progressing at such a fast pace because of this school. Most importantly, NECC gives their students an opportunity that a lot of children on the spectrum do not have. Inside and outside of the classroom, I have watched my brother work to develop skills that will help him strive in the real world. Because of this organization Sam has taken part in things my family would never have imagined to be possible for him, for example this past year NECC got Sam a paying job, and just recently I received an email written from my brother asking me how I was and updating me on what he was doing.
On May/11/2019 New England Center for Children is holding an annual 5K. I will be running in support of my brother, his friends at NECC, and towards the great work that NECC does for children on the Autism Spectrum. My wish is for all children on the Autism Spectrum to have the incredible experience my brother has had as a student at the New England Center. I would greatly appreciate any pledge to support my run, which will go directly towards funding student education and activities.
