About The Merchants Fund (TMF)
The Merchants Fund (TMF, the “Fund”) of Philadelphia is a public charity established in 1854 to provide charitable stipends to Philadelphia merchants in financial need. It evolved from the Mercantile Beneficial Association, an organization dedicated to providing business advice, networking opportunities, and protection from financial failure or default due to illness, old age, or disability at a time in our nation’s history when there was no health or disability insurance, or pension plans. Our mission today is to provide financial assistance to current merchants in Philadelphia county who demonstrate legitimate financial need and the capacity for success. TMF makes modest grants from $1,000 up to $10,000 to small businesses. loan matches up to $20,000 and emergency grants based on uninsured loss.
