My name is Liana Schwab and I'm 12 years old (almost 13). My Bat Mitzvah is in January 2022 in Highland Park, IL. I met Pammy and Scott shortly after their daughter Maddie lost her battle with cancer at a young age. Maddie's smile and positivity throughout her experience with cancer inspires me. The Maddie Kramer Foundation is dedicated to providing smile packs to kids with cancer when they first arive at the hospital. smile packs are backpacks that have toys and decorations for their rooms. I would like to raise money to help other kids with cancer keep happy and positive throughout their journey.

For our Bat Mitzvah project, we're raising money to benefit The Maddie Kramer Foundation: Dancing While Cancering. Dancing While Cancering's sole mission is to bring joy to the inpatient hospital experience for children with cancer. Maddie Kramer was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Maddie loved to dance and showed everyone that life does not stop with cancer. Within the hospital walls or in her bedroom, she danced her way through cancer treatment. Maddie sadly lost her life to this evil disease. As most of you know, we love to dance so this charity is special to us in many ways. In Maddie's honor, we're asking for donations to help other children who are undergoing cancer treatment. Our donations will help provide art supplies, games, speakers for music, wall decorations and more to children during those dark hospital moments. Like Maddie, we want to shine light upon those kids. On August 28th, 2022–days after I turn 40 years old, I’ll be participating in a personal milestone: the Life Time Chicago Triathalon. 

My health journey began in November of 2017, a time when I made lifestyle changes to move through my experience of grief and recovery. 

In May of 2020, I took aggressive medical steps (I started taking, and still take, the medication Liraglutide (Saxenda)— which is a GLP-1 Receptor Agonist, prescribed to me by my Endocrinologist for weight loss and to treat obesity-related conditions). Also at that time, I gradually began my fitness journey… all with the goal to turn my health around in the face of my metabolic conditions: Gestational Diabetes and Prediabetes.

 

As I continue on this journey, I am dedicating the next ~3 months of my triathalon training to benefit a special cause to me: The Maddie Kramer Foundation: Dancing While Cancering.
