Hi, I’m Carson Rich, and I’m raising funds to support The Jed Foundation (JED). Mental health is a incredibly important topic to me personally, and its something I think our society needs to have the proper resources and tools to support. Mental health issues are something that I have observed plaguing not only those close to me, but those across our generation, and something that unfortunately remains a somewhat taboo topic. When it comes to physical illness, most people are decently educated at a basic level and there's no judgement or taboo associated with seeking treatment for it or admitting your ill. When it comes to ailments of the mind, however, there is a taboo and stigma that can often be associated with these conditions, and arguably worse, a complete lack of understanding amongst the general population of how many of these disorders or conditions work and how to properly treat them.

I started this fundraiser to help bring support to the millions of teenagers who struggle with mental health problems and conditions, and through donating to this fundraiser, you can be apart of this process, to create a better future and help enrich the lives of those afflicted with these conditions. The Jed Foundation provides resources to teens, young adults, and families to be able to treat mental health issues and help these various groups of people enjoy life to the fullest.

If you don't donate to the fundraiser, that's totally fine! Simply spreading the word and engaging in the societal conversation surrounding mental health and educating yourself and others through the awareness this fundraiser brings to these issues is worth more to me than any amount of money.

Kappa Alpha Order, Tau Chapter — Suicide Prevention Month Fundraiser

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and the brothers of Kappa Alpha Order, Tau Chapter are raising money for The Jed Foundation (JED).

Here's why it matters: according to the CDC, suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10 to 24. Young people in that range account for 13% of all suicides in the country. These are our classmates, our teammates, our brothers and sisters and friends.

We chose JED because their work happens where we live. JED is a national nonprofit that protects the emotional health and prevents suicide for the nation's teens and young adults, and they do it by partnering directly with high schools and colleges over multi-year engagements to strengthen the mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention systems already on campus. In practice that means:

Helping schools identify students at risk before a crisis, not after

Training faculty, staff, and students to recognize warning signs and know what to say

Strengthening clinical care, crisis response, and the policies that determine what happens when a student is struggling

Campaigns like Seize the Awkward that make starting the conversation less uncomfortable

JED's CEO has described the campus program as working "way upstream" — finding students in distress long before they reach the edge.

We don't want to just write a check and move on. We want this chapter to be a catalyst for change on our own campus: to be the guys who make it normal to check in on a brother, to ask the awkward question, and to keep asking. Raising money is the start of that, not the end of it.

I was saved mental health first aid back in late 2025. The JED foundation works to equip more people with those same tools to help young adults and teens by providing resources and training to educators in order to properly recognize and support students who are in emotional distress.

If only people treated mental health equally as important as their physical health. Many people forget the need to take care of their minds, or are influenced by societal norms that paying attention to mental health makes them “flawed” or “weak”. Teens are especially at risk for mental health struggles since 50 percent of all mental illnesses begin by age 14; yet, even though mental health is quintessential to everyday living, a stigma still surrounds youth mental health and mental health as a whole.

Because of past personal mental health obstacles, I spent my 14th birthday in the hospital. On that day, I dreamt of a world where there lies no shame in seeking help, so people wouldn’t have to experience what I endured.. In our everyday lives, very few discuss mental health, causing me to later realize scarcely any mental health resources were targeted towards adolescents. What’s more, youth mental health research is tremendously underfunded, and the momentum towards diving deeper into brain science is minimal.

Although I am only 14 years old, I believe together we have the ability to advocate for the importance of mental health. All proceeds from this fund will go to the Jed foundation, a non profit, that protects and supports youth mental health by providing resources and programs to teens all over. Remember, your donation, no matter how small, could save a life.

Hello, friends and family!

In just one week, I will be called to Torah as a Bar Mitzvah. As part of my Bar Mitzvah journey, we are asked to identify a Mitzvah Project. After a LOT of thought, I have chosen to fundraise for the Jed Foundation.

The Jed Foundation was founded in 2000 by the Satow family, who lost their child, Jed David, to suicide when Jed was only a young college student. The Satows discovered that although suicide was and still is a leading cause of death among young adults, schools across the country did not have a model for addressing and preventing suicide on campus. The Jed Foundation created a blueprint for suicide, intended to help students navigate the challenges of high school and college.

The Jed Foundation's mission resonates with me because I believe people, especially kids and students, need support from all areas when they are feeling depressed or lonely. I believe there is a world where suicide can be prevented, and the Jed foundation is doing tangible things to ensure that kids and students have the tools and support they need to get through the difficult times in their lives.
