September is National Suicide Prevention Month, a month to remember the many lives lost to suicide. But this is also a month to remind us of all the people suffering from suicidal ideation and mental health issues. My goal with this fundraiser is to spread awareness and relief for the individuals, families, and communities facing the challenges that come with suicide and mental health challenges. I’m doing this for the children, teens, and young adults who are too afraid to speak up, the ones who suffer in silence. Among individuals ages 10-34, suicide is the second leading cause of death. This is a big issue in our world today that, as individuals, we should be more aware of. So I ask you to please educate yourself on these issues and the impact they have on people of all ages. Please check on your kids, friends, family members, colleagues, and fellow students. Many people struggle with mental health and, in many cases, it goes unnoticed. This cause is very important to my heart as I’ve personally dealt with years of suicidal ideation and mental health struggles since I was 13-14 years old. I was not diagnosed with anxiety and depression till I was 17 years old. Throughout my journey to recovery, I’ve learned it is not easy and I still struggle to this day. But I’ve met so many different people along the way that made me realize I wasn’t alone, I wasn’t the only one feeling this way. And meeting them throughout my journey has really helped me not only find myself again but also to relearn how to navigate the world as a young person. So please, if you notice any sign of suicidal ideation, depression, or anxiety in a friend, a family member, or a colleague, talk to them. Ask if they’re okay. So they too can feel like they are not alone.
