Feel free to donate an amount of your choosing and united we can maximize the good. Together we may provide relief to the many facing significant challenges during this time. 

More information about Hunger Coalition, Inc. (Hhc): Incorporated in the State of North Carolina in January 1982, the Watauga County Hunger Coalition was founded to relieve hunger. The original mission of the board was to provide crisis relief for families experiencing temporary, but immediate food shortages. Since then, the mission has grown and shifted as new needs were identified among the poor, stemming from a growing trust and dialogue with the individuals and families served. Our current goal is to provide assistance however possible to financially stressed residents of Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties to ensure their health and well-being.

Over the next few weeks the Hunger and Health Coalition is anticipating a significant increase in the amount of community members needing our resources – with individuals relying on community services such as ours to keep their lives going. We are already seeing increased demand due to the closure of Appalachian State university, K-12 schools, local businesses and restaurants.

Unfortunately, due to recommendations against large gatherings, the Hunger and Health Coalition has had to cancel two of its regular fundraisers:

Cancellation of Empty Bowls March 28 event – a loss to the Hunger & Health Coalition Operating Budget of approximately $12,000

Cancellation of A Simple Gesture April 4 pick up event– a loss to the Hunger & Health Coalition Food Budget of between $14,000 and $17,000 

With this $27,000 shortfall, we need your support to make sure we don’t run out of resources.  Even a small donation will go a long way in making sure we can keep our doors open and allow everyone to receive the food and medicine they need.

Our long time supporters at Ricochet Creative Productions and High Elevation Rentals, both members of the High Country business community (http://ricochetcreativeproductions.com) have each graciously donated up to $5,000 in matching donation funds. That's a total of $10,000!!  So for every $1 donated by you, with matched funds,  we can purchase $10 worth of food!  We are asking other community members and businesses to take up this challenge and donate as you are able! Together we can make a difference!

As we continue to see the impacts of closures and restrictions due to Covid-19 in Watauga County, the Hunger and Health Coalition is committed to remaining open. We want to assure you that we are working diligently to reduce the risk of exposure while continuing to provide emergency food and life sustaining medication for our clients and community members.
