The Oldest Russian Church in Brooklyn needs help
The Holy New Martyrs Russian Orthodox Church, is one of the oldest Russian Orthodox Church in Brooklyn, New York. We are seeking money to complete the restoration of our 100-year-old building to keep serving our community.
20 years ago, a small group of Russian Orthodox people received the blessing from their hierarchs to start a new parish in Brooklyn in memory of The Holy New Martyrs of Russia. It has become the first Russian Orthodox Parish under the Church Abroad that was able to establish a real temple in Brooklyn.
The 100-year-old building had been practically dilapidated from inside out when the parish moved in. Dealing with the constant repairs on top of the mortgage was too exhausting. The decision had been made and last year, the parish began renovating the building.
The scope of work is extensive, as almost everything needs to be replaced. Money that we are collecting will go on the renovation of the altar, new iconostasis, floor, ceiling, walls, windows, doors, baptistry, roof, plumbing, electricity as well as other things.
When the renovation is over – our temple will have a new life with a spacious naval part of the church, bright windows, beautiful lighting, cool space in the summer and warm in the winter as well as a welcoming safe environment. The Icon screen will be completely replaced with a new iconostasis that is already in making. Members of the parish are actively involved in the repair process, dedicating their time and efforts to complete the project as soon as possible. But with all our efforts it is not possible to finish the repairs without external support. We need your help to keep the Church operational, to keep the traditions of our diverse community, and have a safe and warm building to pray and connect to God.
