South Sudan Refugee Medical Relief
For the last 5 years, the Healing Kadi has operated as the largest provider of medical treatment to approximately 400,000 people in Kajo Keji county in South Sudan. Today, that population and more are taking shelter in refugee camps in Northern Uganda.
This is a dynamic and immediate situation that UNHCR budgets did not account for. The refugees lack access to medicines and care, trauma counseling and simple preventative measures like mosquito nets and clean water. Refugees are entering Uganda at a pace of 3000 per day and aid can't keep up.
The Healing Kadi Foundation seeks to mobilize it's staff (now refugees themselves in the camps) to distribute treated mosquito nets, medicines, medical services, and trauma counseling using a Mobile Clinic model for outreach.
Rainy season is upon the refugees, and with severe famine, their immune systems will not fight off a coming Malaria epidemic. We need to act now.
How we will use funds
We can prevent the death of 10s of thousands of children, elderly and otherwise infirm refugees. Our goal is to procure and distribute 120,000 insecticide treated mosquito nets. We will deliver medicines and medical treatment through the operation of mobile medical clinics throughout the camps to battle the onslaught of Malaria, HepB, Cholera and other diseases at risk of wiping out the vulnerable.
Why we can be effective
The Healing Kadi Foundation is working closely with UNHCR and local and national government officials. Healing Kadi is authorized to operate as a community based organization in Uganda. In order to assure we can operate on the ground effectively, we've secured these key local and national relationships during an emergency mission to the Morobi and Belamaling refugee camps in March, 2017. The Healing Kadi Foundation USA team is based in Omaha, Nebraska.
