About The Great Meadow Foundation
The Great Meadow Foundation was founded in 1982 as a result of pressure on existing open space land from development and sprawl pushing westward from Washington DC. The Foundation is the steward of the 375-acre field events center, Great Meadow, which is home to the historic Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase races held in the Spring and Fall. The Foundation's mission is the preservation of open space for community benefit and access. Now a model for adaptive use of open space, thousands of people enjoy the scenic beauty of Great Meadow annually.
