Help Save Full Moon Farm Collective's Future!
We need your help. The Full Moon Farm Collective is facing the hard current reality of lack of funding through grants and government programs that were previously available. With funding sources falling through, we are now looking to the collective, all of you, to help us lift up Full Moon Farm as a model of exactly what is needed and most important in these challenging times.
Your support helps Full Moon Farm sustain through these challenging times when funding through private and public grants is more competitive and fickle than ever due to pressures from less government funds and increased social need. Secondly, the cuts by the federal government to the Dept. of Agriculture LFPA program reduced Full Moon Farm’s (and many other local farms) distribution to families in need. On top of this, our region is working to recover from Hurricane Helene and continued flooding, landslides, and wildfires. The need for local food production is increasingly important in an age where SNAP EBT is jeopardized, families are facing job loss and economic hardships, and sourcing sustainably grown food using organic methods is becoming less affordable for those most marginalized in our communities.
So here is the deal, Full Moon Farm Collective literally needs the help of the collective to stay active and keep going. We have the basic infrastructure and human power required, with 8 years of success to show for. We have plants in the ground growing with vibrance. Now we need your help to provide the monetary support required to keep going!
Some history: Full Moon Farm had been run as an LLC by Kara Dodson and Jacob Crigler for 8 years providing some of the best quality produce to Watauga County and surrounding areas. Kara and Jacob decided it was time to shift their mission to provide this high quality healing food for people who otherwise are not likely to be able to afford and access it. Full Moon Farm had already become a vital hub to the community. A place where people gather for celebrations. The people to call in the middle of the night when flooding is occurring and help is needed. The place folks gather to organize and triage resources and help as needed in urgent (like during the hurricane) and mundane times.
After Hurricane Helene Full Moon Farm Collective received 501c3 status in order to fully align with our values of accessibility, abundance, creativity, connection, and Earth-centered action. Full Moon Farm is a model of exactly what is needed in these times of polycrisis (economic, ecological, social and political crises). A land-based space that protects the natural forest and waters for people to visit and explore. A place where high quality, nutrient dense, organically grown produce is grown and distributed to marginalized communities who lack access across 6 counties in the High Country of Western North Carolina and 1 county in East Tennessee. A place that offers healing gatherings and workshops, earth-based life skills trainings, and creative art projects to beautify nature based spaces.
Your supports helps us to keep going and offer the following:
• Provide nutrient dense foods organically grown through no-till farming techniques and soil amendments aimed to improve the overall health of the soil. This food is provided at no cost through the Hunger and Health Coalition for people across 7 counties in this region who lack access to healthy foods. We also provide produce to FARM Cafe who provides cooked meals at no cost to the community in Boone.
• Maintain safe, beautiful, welcoming natural spaces that foster connection and wellbeing for everyone.
• Offer healing Ecotherapy groups and Earth-based Life Skill Workshops to foster greater connection to the land, provide collective healing opportunities, build stronger community relationships, improve resourceful skills necessary for these times, foster environmental stewardship, and increase access to healthy local foods.
• Support the dedicated staff and volunteers who deliver these vital resources and services.
Every donation will help us keep Full Moon Farm Collective up and running. This is a model of community based organization that can provide guidance and leadership for communities all over the United States for a way forward in times of polycrisis. Together, we can uplift the High Country of WNC and continue the important work of The Full Moon Farm Collective that is needed to communities beyond our local area. Please join me in making a meaningful impact today!
